What is a Satellite campus?  18 to 25 practicing teachers seeking advanced degrees  Curriculum sequenced and designed around local issues and concerns  Focus is on school improvement  Members become a team of educational leaders who can affect teaching and education within the local school district

Advantages of the Satellite Campuses  Coursework is tied to school improvement efforts.  Instruction is both practical and theoretical.  Model is delivered on site. (Exceptions may occur for online courses.)  The degree takes about four semesters to complete.  Technology is emphasized throughout the program of study.  Understanding diverse cultures is incorporated in the program of study.  Assignments and research are directly related to teaching.  Taught by scholarly practitioners involved in the r ea l world of students and teachers

Satellite Campus Convenience  On site advisement, registration, instruction and evaluation  Students can order textbooks on-line or by telephone  Courses are held according to the host school district schedule  Please note: Online classes are held according to the Piedmont College campus calendar and may require a face- to- face meeting on campus. Summer content classes may require attendance at the Demorest campus.

What is a Capstone?  Culminating presentation for ECE and SEC  Scholarly, personal synthesis of the program of study  Takes the place of thesis or comprehensive examinations  “Stand and Deliver!” exhibition  Evaluated by professional educators

To apply to the Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education degree program: 1. Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 2.5 GPA. 2. Applicant must have a current, renewable, teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education To apply to the Master of Arts in Middle Grades Education degree program: 1. Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 2.5 GPA. 2. Applicant must have a current, valid, renewable teaching certificate in Middle Grades Education

To apply to the Master of Arts in Secondary Education degree program: 1. Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 2.5 GPA. 2. Applicant must have a current, renewable teaching certificate in Secondary Education in English, History, Math or Science “ANF”—Adding a New Field  If your teaching certificate is in a field other than Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education or Secondary Education in English, History, Math or Broad field Science, you will be adding a new field.  You must have transcripts evaluated be fo re being considered for acceptance.  Professional Standards Commission (PSC) requires certain courses that may not be offered in the Satellite location. Therefore you may have to take courses outside of the Satellite location.  GACE is not required for advanced certification in the same field. It is required if changing fields and the applicant desires certification in the new field.

Admissions Requirements MA Application criteria: Required documents  Completed Graduate Application  Three professional references using our online reference system (www.p ied mon t.ed u/ gr adr efs ) from o Supervising administrator o Former professor or instructor o Professional colleague  Final, Official transcript from the regionally accredited college or university awarding your master’s degree. This must be submitted in a sealed envelope sent from the registrar’s office. (Piedmont College transcripts are on file.)  Photocopy of your current, clear, renewable level 4 teaching certificate  Personal Affirmation Form  Current, reported GRE General Test (minimum 35th percentile on verbal and quantitative sections or its equivalent on the revised GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (minimum 35th percentile scaled score) (Official test scores should be sent to Graduate Admissions from the testing service.) OR  Professional Admissions  For certified teachers who have three or more years of experience in accredited public schools with a clear, renewable teaching certificate.  Required validation of competence and effectiveness on annual evaluation forms  If this option is used, the admissions test is not required

Notes on Admissions Requirements  Two recent and successfully completed graduate courses may exempt the admissions test.  Official MAT or GRE test score within the last five years is acceptable.  Two recent graduate courses ma y transfer based on approval of the Registrar and the Department Chair.
