A.L. FORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This annual scholarship was established in 1995 by Isabel Ford as a memorial for her late husband. A.L. Ford. A.L. Ford was a communications pioneer in Prince George, serving 48 years with CN Telegraph. From the arrival of telegraph services to Prince George to the evolving telecommunications services of the 1970's, A.L. Ford worked in areas that we now call "information technology". Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who intend to pursue a career in information technology. Criteria: Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement over the last two years and have demonstrated good citizenship. Must plan to enroll in post secondary studies leading to a career in telecommunications or other areas covered under the broad umbrella of information technology. Must plan to pursue their education in a full time program of two or more academic years in any one of the following: a) technical training b) university studies c) college studies Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining good citizenship must accompany application.
BEAVERLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: 5550.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attended Beaverly Elementary School for a minimum of two years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated involvement in extra-curricular activities. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Conditions: A letter of reference outlining extra-curricular activities must accompany application.
BET SIDDALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship has been established to honour the memory of Bet Siddall, who worked in School District No. 57 from 1966 to 1988. This award honours Mrs. Siddall for her outstanding contribution to education as teacher and principal; it recognizes her belief in the importance of education as the means by which each individual might strive to realize his or her potential. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who have attended Hart Highlands, Peden Hill or Harwin Elementary Schools for a minimum of 2 years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee
BEV HOSKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This awards was established by family and friends of Bev Hosker. Born in Fort St. John. Bev was a member of the first ever female RCMP troop. She went on to serve 24 years with the RCMP throughout British Columbia. Bev was in integral member of the District Parent Advisory Councils in both Quesnel and Prince George, and a tireless advocate for the rights of students and parents. She was a particularly strong believer in the need to increase the numbers of young women pursuing studies in math and science. This award will go to someone who embodies Bev's commitment to community and school and plans to pursue further studies in a mathematics related field. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to a female student who shows an aptitude for mathematics. Applicants must intend to pursue a career in a mathematics related field (mathematics, finance, science). Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated leadership and involvement in school and community activities. Demonstrated strong aptitude in mathematics Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Conditions: A letter of reference outlining leadership and involvement in school and community activities must accompany application. BLACKBURN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship has been established in 1994 by the Blackburn family who arrived in the Pineview area in the 1920's. The Blackburns have always taken an active role in the community where the first log school was built on their farm land. The award is intended to recognize and provide financial support to a student who attended Blackburn Junior Secondary School. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who attended one of these schools for 2 or more years: Blackburn, Giscome, Pineview, Buckhorn, or Hixon Elementary. Criteria: Demonstrated academic excellence and a strong involvement in their school and/or community. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining school/community involvement must accompany application.
BRIJ M. MADHOK, PRINCE GEORGE REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL CENTRE CRIMINOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP This award was established in 1988 by the Hutda Lake Camp to provide financial assistance to a graduating student who plan to pursue post-secondary education in the field of criminology. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who plan to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution in the field of criminology. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated good character as evidenced by letters of reference. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Condition: Dependents of Corrections staff are not disqualified. Letters of reference outlining character must accompany application.
BRYAN JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Bryan Johnson, a Prince George businessman. He was a very warm, friendly person with a tremendous zest for life. The purpose of this scholarship is to acknowledge students who are self-motivated and who pursue excellence in their endeavours. Bryan's untimely death occurred in an avalanche while skiing on Mount Rider, February 4, 1995. He is sadly missed by his wife, family and friends. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $300.00 Eligibility: Open to all students. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated leadership or involvement in extracurricular and/or community activities. BUCKHORN COMMUNITY RECREATION COMMISSION SCHOLARSHIP (DS) Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: $200.00 Eligibility: Open to students who have attended Buckhorn Elementary School for a minimum of two years and have shown an interest in promoting community programs. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated community service. Selection Process: Selected by donor Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining community service must accompany application. CALEDONIA NORDIC SKI CLUB SCHOLARSHIP (DS) Sponsored by Nordics Forest Company which manages the ski club's woodlot. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in any secondary school participating in the District Awards Program who is a current member in good standing of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and: a) has been an active member of a Caledonia Nordic Ski Challenge Group for at least their senior years. or b) has been an active coach or instructor with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for at least their senior years. or c) has been an active volunteer with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for at least their senior years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Has been an active member of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, as an athlete, coach/instructor, and/or volunteer for at least their senior years. Selection Process: Selected by Donor Special Conditions: Should there be no successful candidate, two scholarships may be offered in the following year. Candidate should describe in writing their involvement with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.
CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES LOCAL 1048 CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP (DS) Members of C.U.P.E. Local 1048 work for the City of Prince George. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend schools in the City of Prince George. and who are members or sons & daughters of C.U.P.E. Local 1048 members. Criteria: Demonstrated academic excellence. Demonstrated community involvement. CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES LOCAL 3742 MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP Members of C.U.P.E, 3742 are support workers for School District No. 57. Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $1000.00 Eligibility: Open to students who are the son, daughter or dependent of an CUPE Local 3742 member in good standing. CHINESE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP The Chinese Benevolent Society Scholarship was established as a District Award in 1983. It is given to a student of Chinese descent who is a member of the Chinese Benevolent Association. The student's school will receive a trophy for that year. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: $200.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend a school in the City of Prince George, and who are of Chinese descent or, in the case of members of Canadian Chinese families, have at least one parent of Chinese descent. Students must be a member of the Chinese Benevolent Association. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated involvement in assisting and organizing Chinese Benevolent Association functions. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference from the Chinese Benevolent Association Board of Directors outlining involvement in assisting and organizing Chinese Benevolent Association functions must accompany application. CITY OF PRINCE GEORGE JUBILEE SCHOLARSHIP These scholarships were established by the City of Prince George to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the city. Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $1000.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend a school in the City of Prince George. Criteria: Demonstrated high academic achievement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee.
COMMUNICATIONS, ENERGY AND PAPERWORKERS' UNION OF CANADA BILL HICKEY LOCAL 603 CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who are sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of active and retired members in good standing with CEP Bill Hickey Local 603. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Students must possess a C+ or better average. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition : Recipient must intend to pursue education in any of the following areas: Technical, Vocational, Apprenticeship Training (recognized and licensed under the B.C. Trade Schools Act), College or University Program outlining commitment to self-improvement. All applicants for this scholarship must submit a thousand word essay, which chronicles the positive benefits of unions within our society. This award is conditional on enrollment in a full time program in the year following graduation.
COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL OF PRINCE GEORGE LITERARY ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (DS) The Prince George Community Arts Council established this award in 1990. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in Prince George and who intend to pursue a career or further study in Literary Arts. Criteria: Demonstrated high academic achievement, ability in and have a commitment to, the literary arts. Should be prepared to talk about their literary arts experience and their plans to continue study or training in the literary arts. Selection Process: Selected by Donor Special Condition: A selection of one of the following categories: Fiction, Poetry, Drama, Non Fiction or Children's Literature, must accompany your application.
COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL OF PRINCE GEORGE PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (DS) The Prince George Community Arts Council established this award in 1981. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in Prince George and who intend to pursue a career or further study in the Performing Arts. Criteria: Demonstrated high academic achievement, ability in and have a commitment to, the performing arts. As this is a performing arts award, applicants will prepare a presentation for a panel of judges. They should be prepared to talk about their arts experience and their plans to continue study or training in the arts. Selection Process: Selected by Donor. COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL OF PRINCE GEORGE VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (DS) The Prince George Community Arts Council established this award in 1981 Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in Prince George who intends to pursue a career or further study in the Visual Arts. Criteria: Demonstrated high academic achievement, ability in and have a commitment to, the visual arts. Selection Process: Selected by Donor Special Condition: As this is a visual arts award, applicants will prepare and present a portfolio of their work to be submitted with their application for a panel of judges. They should be prepared to talk about their arts experience and their plans to continue study or training in the arts.
DOGWOOD DISTRICT/AUTHORITY AWARDS The Government of BC will make available to graduating students of School District No. 57, scholarships each valued at 51,000.00. Successful candidates are selected on demonstrated excellence in fields other than academic. Number of Awards: variable Amount of Each Award: $1000 Successful candidates each receive a $500.00 Dogwood District/Authority Award cheque. An additional $500.00 will be paid to each award winner who registers in an approved program of career-oriented studies at a post-secondary institution. Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in any secondary school in School District No. 57 only (not SD93 or Cedars Christian School) who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents / landed immigrants and who fulfill graduation requirements. Criteria: Possess a C- or better average in the Grade 12 year. This award will be available to graduates who excel in any of the following areas: Fine Arts (Visual Arts. Dance. Drama. Music) Applied Skills (Business Education. Technologv Education Information Communication Technology Home Economics) Physical Activity (not limited to Physical Education) Second Languages (including Aboriginal Languages) Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference indicating a high standard of achievement in the related field of study must be attached to the application form. This award is selected in September.

ERIN BEHNSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award was established in 1987 in memory of Erin Behnsen, the infant daughter of Gerry and Faye Behnsen. The death of a child represents the loss of potential. This award has been established to augment the potential of a grade 12 graduate from School District No. 57, who plans to enter either a General Nursing Diploma Program or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who indicate an intention to enroll in a recognized General Nursing Diploma Program or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrate involvement in school and/or community affairs. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining involvement in school and/or community affairs must accompany application. Recipient of this award must provide proof of registration in a recognized nursing program
FMC OF CANADA SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in School District No. 57. Criteria: Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement. Demonstrate community involvement and be a well rounded individual. GORDON BALLANTYNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship has been established by School District No. 57 to honour the memory of Gordon Ballantyne for his outstanding contribution to education as a teacher, principal and district administrator and in recognition of his love for the English language. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support to students who have demonstrated excellence in their knowledge and use of the English language. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to all students. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Has achieved the highest composite mark in English 12 and English Literature 12. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. GURU GOBIND SINGH TEMPLE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the City of Prince George, are of the Sikh religion, and whose parents hold an active membership in the Temple Association. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement over the two senior years of secondary education. Selection Process : Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Condition: A letter of reference from the Guru Gobind Singh Temple Association stating active parent membership in the Temple Association must accompany application.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP This award was established in 1994. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $300.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attended Immaculate Conception School for a minimum of two years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated involvement in extra-curricular activities and/or community service. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining involvement in extra-curricular activities and/or community service must accompany application. Selection of recipient is subject to the approval of the donor. This award is paid directly by the donor.
INDUSTRIAL FORESTRY SERVICE LTD SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the City of Prince George, and who intend to enter first year science at a university or college with the intention of subsequently entering a university Faculty of Forestry. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. INNOVATION RESOURCE CENTRE SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $1000.00 Eligibility: Open to students who are pursuing studies in a science or technology related program at the University of Northern BC and/or at the College of New Caledonia. Criteria: Demonstrate high level of academic achievement. Demonstrate innovation and initiative over two senior years of secondary education. Selection Process: Selected by the District Awards Committee. Special Condition: This award should not be limited to the highest academic achiever. Letter of reference explaining innovation and initiative over two senior years of secondary education must accompany application.
INTEGRIS CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $1000.00 with an opportunity to interview for employment at Integris Credit Union for the summer months in the year in which the award is received. Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the City of Prince George. Applicants must be either members of or are sons or daughters of members of Integris Credit Union. Applicants must intend to pursue a career in finance, economics, technology or marketing. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated leadership or involvement in extracurricular and/or community activities. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Conditions: A letter of reference outlining leadership and community involvement must accompany application.
JENNIFER HARTLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award was established by Canadian Forest Products Ltd., North Central Plywoods to honour the Memory of a co-worker, Jennifer Hartley. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: $2000.00 Eligibility: Open to students attending school in the City of Prince George, who are the son or daughter of a Canfor/Canadian Forest Products Ltd. and/or Canfor Pulp and Paper Limited (CPLP) employees. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated involvement in school, community or volunteer activities. Demonstrated commitment to self-improvement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining involvement in school, community or volunteer activities. 2 letters of reference from school district personnel or other involved adults outlining commitment to self- improvement.
JOHN MCINNIS SECONDARY PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $250.00 Eligibility: Open to students who have attended John McInnis Secondary for a minimum of two years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated community and/or school involvement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining community and/or school involvement must accompany application. JUNE ELIZABETH WADE MYTTING SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship has been established by June Elizabeth Wade Mytting from the proceeds of her published works, to assist a graduating student from one of College Heights. Duchess Park, Kelly Road, Prince George,, D.P. Todd Secondary or School District 93 proceeding on to post-secondary education in a recognized educational institution. The scholarship purpose is to acknowledge students who are self- motivated and who pursue excellence in their endeavours. Mrs. Mytting died on July 26, 1986, of cancer. She will be missed by family, friends and fans. The work will continue in her memory and this award will be enlarged. KEN LUTTRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Kiwanis Club of Prince George has established a memorial trust fund to honour the memory of Ken Luttrell for his outstanding service to the Prince George community. Mr. Luttrell was a 30-year charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Prince George. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to all students. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated outstanding citizenship qualities. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. Special Conditions: A letter of reference outlining citizenship qualities must accompany application.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 5246 (PRINCE GEORGE) CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who are a Knight or son, daughter or grandchild of a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus Council 5246 (Prince George). Recipients must attend a post secondary school in British Columbia. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Conditions: Selection of the recipient is subject to the approval of the donor. Recipients will not be eligible to receive more than one of the Knights of Columbus Council 5246 (Prince George) scholarships. This award is paid directly by the donor.
LO ELLIOTT ORTHODONTICS CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP This Scholarship has been established by Dr. Francine Lo and Dr. Robert Elliott. They are certified specialists in orthodontics located in Prince George with deep roots in the community. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award : S3000.00 Eligibility: Open to students who are past or present full orthodontic treatment patients. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated involvement in school activities and/or extracurricular activities either at school or in the community. Selection Process : Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference outlining involvement in school activities and/or extracurricular activities either at school or in the community must accompany application. MIKE REID MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (DS) In 1995 the name of the scholarship was changed from the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club to the Mike Reid Memorial Scholarship. Mike Reid, a respected and active member of the ski club, died suddenly in 1995 at age 35. He had been a talented athlete, a positive role model, and a mentor to young athletes at both the local and provincial level. The scholarship was renamed in his memory. The Caledonia Nordics Ski Club is a Cross Country Ski Club which has been established in the Prince George area for over 30 years. It was formerly known as the Hickory Wing Ski Club. This scholarship is intended to assist the Club's young athletes wishing to continue their post-secondary education. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: 500.00 Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in any secondary school in School District No. 57 who is a current member in good standing of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and: a) has been an active member of a Caledonia Nordic Ski Club Race Team for at least their senior years. or b) has been an active coach or instructor with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for at least their senior years. or c) has been an active volunteer with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for at least their senior years. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Selection Process: Selected by Donor Special Conditions: Candidate should describe in writing their involvement with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.
MULTICULTURAL HERITAGE SOCIETY OF PRINCE GEORGE SCHOLARSHIP (DS) These are endowed funds held by the Prince George Community Foundation. Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to all students. Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated leadership or participation in community and/or school activities. Applicants must plan to enroll at the University of Northern BC or the College of New Caledonia. Selection Process: Selected by Donor Special Conditions: Applicants must submit a short essay between 300 to 500 words on the following topic: *How are the many cultures in this society of value to our community? THE POZER FAMILY ENDOWMENT FUND The Pozer Family established a new family fund with the Prince George Community Foundation in 2004 with the first award given to a student in June 2006. PRINCE OF WALES SCHOLARSHIP A perpetual scholarship was established in 1986 to commemorate the visit to Prince George of their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales. Criteria: Demonstrate a high record of academic achievement in both Grade I I and Grade 12. Demonstrate outstanding citizenship as evidenced by their involvement in school and community activities. Her conscientious and compassionate nature endeared her to the many patients, co-workers, friends and family. Fowlie was easily one of Prince George's most respected and recognized individuals. He was a founding member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Prince George Chapter where he supported the goal to be a leader in finding a cure for MS and enabling local residents affected by MS to enhance their quality of life. Afflicted himself with MS for 40 years, Mr. Fowlie lived life to the fullest. He was seen regularly motoring the streets of Prince George in his electric wheelchair with a clever saying pinned to the back. JIM McLEOD MEMORIAL BURSARY This bursary has been established by the Prince George Take the Car Out of CAR/nage Society to honour the memory of Jim McLeod who was a founding member of the Society. The purpose of this bursary is to provide financial support to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to Traffic Safety and to the reduction of automobile-related injuries and fatalities. KARL ANDERSON FOUNDATION BURSARY Karl Anderson left Denmark at an early age as a member of the Danish Navy and made his way to Canada, arriving in the rapidly growing community of South Fort George in 1913. He opened a newsstand opposite the sternwheeler landing in South Fort George. In 1914 Karl moved his store to a permanent building on George Street in the new town site of Prince George. Karl was a member of the Rotary Club of Prince George as well as the Supreme Lodge of the Danish Brotherhood in America. This award is given to male students who intend to pursue a university education. PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS BURSARY This perpetual award, established in 1991 by the Prince George Spruce Kings Hockey Club, is given to students who plan to enroll in a program ofstudies at the university of Northern British Columbia. Number of Awards: I Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who plan to attend the University of Northern British Columbia and who have played hockey in the Prince George Minor Hockey Association for a minimum of one year. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. ROTARY CLUB OF PRINCE GEORGE BURSARY The Rotary Club of Prince George awards bursaries towards student's tuition to students from city secondary schools planning to enter any non-degree granting program at an accredited or acceptable post-secondary educational institution. Number of Awards: 4 Amount of Each Award: 5750.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the city of Prince George. Criteria: Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement. Demonstrate extra curricular community involvement will receive preference. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee. This award is paid by donor. Special Conditions: Recipients must intend to pursue education in any one of the following areas: technical, vocational, apprenticeship training (recognized and licensed under the BC Trade Schools Act..) SHAMARLEN LUCILLE MELVILLE MEMORIAL BURSARY This award was established in 1991 in memory of Shamarlen Lucille Melville, a former employee of School District No. 5-7 who worked in Mackenzie. BC. She was a graduate of the Grace Maternity Hospital Nursing Program in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was a very warm, friendly, outgoing person who cared about people. This award is made available to a graduating student intending to pursue a career in the field of nursing at an approved post-secondary institution. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who intend to pursue a career in the field of nursing. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement, financial need, and ability to achieve educational goals. Demonstrated citizenship. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: Preference will be given to a student from Mackenzie Secondary School. In the event there is no qualified applicant from Mackenzie Secondary School, this award will be open to a candidate from another secondary school within the district who meets the above criteria. A letter of reference outlining citizenship must accompany application.
SOUTH BOWL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION BURSARY Number of Awards: 2 Amount of Each Award: $500.00 Eligibility: Open to students who have attended Westwood Elementary, Pinewood Elementary, Van Bien Elementary and/or Peden Hill Elementary Schools for two consecutive years. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial. Demonstrated community and/or school involvement. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Conditions: A letter of reference outlining community and/or school involvement must accompany application. The award is conditional on enrollment in any program that is six month or longer in duration.
SPRINGWOOD COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION BURSARY This award was established in 1989. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Eligibility: Open to students who attended Springwood Elementary School for a minimum of two years. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. Provide a written character reference from other than a family member. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: A letter of reference must accompany application. SPRUCE CREDIT UNION BURSARY The Spruce Credit Union Bursaries are offered, on a rotating basis, to students graduating from secondary schools within the City of Prince George. Number of Awards: 2 see Special Conditions Amount of Each Award: $750.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend schools in the City of Prince George. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. Demonstrated leadership or involvement in extra-curricular and/or community activities. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Conditions: Awards are to be distributed as follows: June 2010: Prince George Secondary and Duchess Park Secondary A letter of reference outlining leadership or involvement in community must accompany application. Recipients do not have to be members or a son or daughter of a member of the Spruce Credit Union; however, when two students have equal qualifications for the award, preference will be given to a student who is a member or a son or daughter of a member of the Spruce Credit Union. Recipients unable to pursue their education in September immediately following graduation may defer it for one year only.
TANJA VOHAR MEMORIAL BURSARY This award was established by family, friends and co-workers to honour the memory of Tanja Vohar. Tanja was born and raised in Prince George, completing her elementary school years at Pineview Elementary and graduating from Prince George Secondary School. Tanja was a kind, gentle person, quick to provide a smile and a helping hand. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Number of Awards: 1 Amount of Each Award: Variable Open to students who attend schools in the City of Prince George. Students must have attended Pineview Elementary School for at least two years. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. Demonstrated involvement in school, community or volunteer activities. TONY MATER MEMORIAL BURSARY This award was established in 2003 by family and friends to honour the memory of Tony Maier. Tony was born in Prince George and lived here all his life. He was a carpenter for School District No. 57 for many years and will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, and his strong commitment to family, friends and the community. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement, financial need, strong citizenship skills, and participation in school and community activities. Selection Process: Selected by District Awards Committee Special Condition: The winner of this award is requested to provide Vanway Elementary with to 5 x 7 photo to be displayed at the school.

WOMEN OF THE MOOSE MEDICAL BURSARY (DS) The Women of the Moose make these awards to graduating students from city secondary schools who intend to enter the medical field immediately after graduation. Number of Awards: 3 Amount of Each Award: 51000.00 Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the City of Prince George and who intend to become practical nurses, x-ray technicians, doctors' assistants, RN's, or pursue any worthwhile vocation to do with caring for the sick. Criteria: Demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement and financial need. Demonstrated school and community involvement in volunteer activities. Selection Process: Selected by Donor. This award is paid by the donor. Special Condition: Applicants must provide a letter accompanying their applications indicating their reasons for pursuing a medical career.
