Allison Dean Love, API, MBA Executive Director, South Carolina Insurance News Service

Allison Dean Love is the Executive Director of the South Carolina Insurance News Service, a non-profit organization which provides insurance information to the media and consumers. Ms. Love serves as the spokesperson for the property and casualty insurance industry and is in her 14th year with the News Service.

The News Service sends news releases on timely insurance issues. In 2008 she wrote 87 news releases which made 60 million+ media impressions throughout South Carolina and the United States. Some recent mainstream media contacts include CNN, Good Morning America, ABC Evening News, USA Today and Insurance Day (United Kingdom).

The News Service maintains a web site (www.scinsurance.net) with insurance information on a variety of property and casualty insurance topics. She travels the state appearing on TV and radio shows and talking about insurance issues with community groups. She helps print media reporters with insurance news stories, conducts research and produces fact sheets and news releases. She tracks legislation and writes a weekly bulletin on the legislative session – ending the 2009 session with nearly 200 insurance-related bills. She works with a variety of state and national organizations. She helps run the SC Arson Hotline and publicizes the SC Insurance Fraud Hotline. She enjoys helping people understand insurance issues and educating them on having the financial security and peace of mind in knowing their property is protected in case of disaster. Some of her favorite topics are helping people save money on insurance, protecting homes and businesses from damage, insurance fraud, arson and arson.

She has expertise in communications, media and public relations, marketing, advertising, training and human resource management. Her experience spans a range of industries from property and casualty insurance, banking, healthcare and nonprofit organization management.

Ms. Love completed one year toward a Ph.D. in Communications/Public Relations at the University of South Carolina, holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from The Citadel (1993) and a Bachelor’s degree in Management from Middle Tennessee State University (1986). She has a Certificate in General Insurance (1998), an Associate in Personal Insurance (API) (1999) and has completed 4 of the 8 credits toward a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.

She serves the following professional, civic and charitable organizations: The SC Department of Insurance Advisory Committee on Mitigation (SC SAFE HOME Board), the SC Press Association, the SC Broadcasters Association, 113 Calhoun Street Foundation/Center for a Hazard Resilient Coast, SC SAFE KIDS Coalition Board of Directors, SC Insurance Fraud Investigators, SC Arson Investigators, Charleston County Project Impact - Public Information Committee, and has served on the Professional Insurance Agents of SC Board of Directors, the Charleston Southern University Earthquake Education Center Board, the SC Dept. of Insurance Uninsured Motorists Working Group (Public Information Chair), SC Disaster Coalition and the SC Dept. of Insurance Fraud Working Group. She received the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of South Carolina Chairman's Citation for Consumer Awareness in 2008.

Ms. Love is also very active with The Citadel. In April of 2000, she was elected by the SC General Assembly as the first voting woman on The Citadel Board of Visitors. She was re-elected in April of 2006 for another 6 year term. In addition to being on The Citadel Board of Visitors, she is also Chair of The Lowcountry Graduate Center Board of Directors, a member of The Citadel Alumni Association, a volunteer for The Citadel Brigadier Foundation and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

She is also active with her church, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral (member, lector, intercessor and previously an interviewer for “Voice of Trinity” radio show – the longest running church produced radio show in America).

She is a member of the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics and an associate member of the SC General Assembly Women’s Caucus.

Ms. Love grew up on a farm in Columbia, Tennessee, but has lived in South Carolina 19 years.
