Smith Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, Office of American Indians in Medicine and Science, Tulsa, OK 74107 Abstract: Fragments of a proboscidean tooth were found in Neogene sediments of the Ogallala Formation within an evaporate karst sinkhole formed in Permian redbeds outside Gate, Oklahoma. The pieces were reconstructed and identified by comparison with museum specimens and literature. The tooth was determined to belong to the family Gomphotheriidae, and the species complex Gomphotherium “productum.” The species is known by other records in the Late Miocene of Oklahoma and surrounding areas. Diskutované skupiny tak mnohdy nepředstavují monofyletické skupiny. Přestože jsou taxonomické kategorie matoucí (např. Laurin 2005), jsem do jisté míry nucen je používat. Některým skupinám úrovně stále přiřazeny nebyly a zde této skutečnosti není přisuzován žádný význam. V této rešerši jsem se zaměřil hlavně na poznatky, které následovaly po vydání knihy; The Proboscidea: Evolution and Paleoecology of Elephants and Their Relatives, od Shoshaniho a Tassyho (1996). Chobotnatci jsou součástí skupiny Tethytheria společně s anthracobunidy, sirénami a desmostylidy (Shoshani 1998; Shoshani & Tassy 1996; 2005; Gheerbrant & Tassy 2009). Základní klasifikace sestává ze dvou skupin. Ze skupiny Plesielephantiformes, do které patří čeledě Numidotheriidae, Barytheriidae a Deinotheridae a ze skupiny Elephantiformes, do které patří čeledě Palaeomastodontidae, Phiomiidae, Mammutida, Gomphotheriidae, tetralofodontní gomfotéria, Stegodontidae a Elephantidae (Shoshani & Marchant 2001; Shoshani & Tassy 2005; Gheerbrant & Tassy 2009).

    Bull. Fla. Mus. Nat. Hist. (2005) 45(4): 413-434 413 CARNIVORA FROM THE LATE MIOCENE LOVE BONE BED OF FLORIDA Jon A. Baskin1 Eleven genera and twelve species of Carnivora are known from the late Miocene Love Bone Bed Local Fauna, Alachua County, Florida. Taxa from there described in detail for the first time include the canid cf. Urocyon sp., the hemicyonine ursid cf. Plithocyon sp., and the mustelids Leptarctus webbi n. sp., Hoplictis sp., and ?Sthenictis near ?S. lacota. Postcrania of the nimravid Barbourofelis indicate that it had a subdigitigrade posture and most likely stalked and ambushed its prey in dense cover. The postcranial morphology of Nimravides (Felidae) is most similar to the jaguar, Panthera onca. The carnivorans strongly support a latest Clarendonian age assignment for the Love Bone Bed. Although the Love Bone Bed local fauna does show some evidence of endemism at the species level, it demonstrates that by the late Clarendonian, Florida had become part of the Clarendonian chronofauna of the midcontinent, in contrast to the higher endemism present in the early Miocene and in the later Miocene and Pliocene of Florida. Packauskas1 Abstract Forty eight species of Pentatomidae are listed as occurring in the state of Kansas, nine of these are new state records. A key to all species known from the state of Kansas is given, along with some notes on new state records. ____________________ The family Pentatomidae, comprised of mainly phytophagous and a few predaceous species, is one of the largest families of Heteroptera. Some of the phytophagous species have a wide host range and this ability may make them the most economically important family among the Heteroptera (Panizzi et al. 2000). As a group, they have been found feeding on cotton, nuts, fruits, veg- etables, legumes, and grain crops (McPherson 1982, McPherson and McPherson 2000, Panizzi et al 2000).

Despite its contribution to world trade and the economy, this trade aquarium, also comprises one of the main pathways for the introduction of non- crustaceans, indigenous animals. In the past decade, crayfish has become a popular non-indigenous pet as well as a potential threat to the environment upon its escape or species, release. Since the Czech Republic is one of the world’s leading importer, price exporter, and producer of aquatic ornamental animals, we prepared a de- tailed analysis of crayfish imports. The present paper provides a complete list of countries supplying ornamental crayfish and examines trends of their prices and imported quantities during the past decade (2003–2012). Indonesia has been identified as the leading supplier in recent years. The annual average price of imported crayfish has varied over the evaluated period within the range of c0.76–4.72 per individual and it is rising annu- ally by c0.15. The quantity of live crayfish imported for aquarium purposes has not been affected significantly by the price per individual and it has grown rapidly. Therefore a constant monitoring of this pet trade sector is strongly recommended for the future.

LARSON Department of Biology, Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada A1B 3X9 Abstract. One hundred and thirteen species of Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) are recorded from the Yukon Territory. The Yukon distribution, total geographical range and habitat of each of these species is described and multi-species patterns are summarized in tabular form. Several different range patterns are recognized with most species being Holarctic or transcontinental Nearctic boreal (73%) in lentic habitats. Other major range patterns are Arctic (20 species) and Cordilleran (12 species), while a few species are considered to have Grassland (7), Deciduous forest (2) or Southern (5) distributions. Sixteen species have a Beringian and glaciated western Nearctic distribution, i.e. the only Nearctic Wisconsinan refugial area encompassed by their present range is the Alaskan/Central Yukon refugium; 5 of these species are closely confined to this area while 11 have wide ranges that extend in the arctic and/or boreal zones east to Hudson Bay. Leur répartition au Yukon, leur répartition globale et leur habitat sont décrits et un tableau résume les regroupements d’espèces. La répartition permet de reconnaître plusieurs éléments: la majorité des espèces sont holarctiques ou transcontinentales-néarctiques-boréales (73%) dans des habitats lénitiques. They are most briefly and directly described as shovel-tusked mastodons. The first one found, namely Amebelodon fricki, was secured in April 1927, and was pub­ lished June 1927. In the meantime, many other examples of Amebelodonts have been added to the Morrill Palaeon­ tological Collections of the Nebraska State Museum. The exact number cannot be stated until the material shipped in from the field during the current season is unpacked, cleaned, and identified.

    Chapter 18 Broad-Headed Bugs (Alydidae) Antônio R. Panizzi and Carl w. Schaefer Abstract The broad-headed bugs (Alydidae) are divided into two subfamilies, Alydinaeand Micrelytrinae, each divided into two tribes, Daclerini and Alydini, and Micrelytriniand Leptocorisini, respectively, The farnily has 53 genera and about 250 specieins; the Neotropics, there are 21 genera. Alydids are small (8-20 mm), slen- Itr,with a triangular head; nymphs of alydines mimic ants, the adults of some Micrelytrinialso rnirnic ants. The most studied species in the Neotropics is the aly- dineNeomegalotomus parvus (Westwood), usually associated with legumes, and maybe a pest on soybean. Other common genera include Hyalymenus Amyot & Serville,Stenocoris Burmeister, Cydamus Stâl, and Trachelium Herrich-Schâffer. Studieson taxonomy and bioecology on alydids of the Neotropics are needed. 18.1 Introduction AlydidaeAmyot and Serville, 1843, were treated as a subfarnily of the farnily Coreidaeand even as a tribe (Schaffner 1964); now it has been treated as a farnily, ~ether with Coreidae, Rhopalidae, Hyocephalidae, and Stenocephalidae, in the !UperfarniCoreoidealy (Schaefer 1964). Thisfarnily contains 53 genera and approximately 250 species, mostly tropical Irsubtropical,in all regions of the world. There are only two genera that span both dleOldand the New World, Alydus and Megalotomus.
