Gibon Yonsup (Hand techniques) 1 st Kup

1. Annun so, sonbadak miro makgi (sitting stance, palm pushing block), opun sonkut nopunde tulgi, going to the left (flat fingertip high thrust, normal motion) Change direction every second one i.e. go left then go right.

2. Gunnun so, sang sonbadak ollyo makgi (walking stance, twin palm upward block) sang joomuk sewo jirugi (twin fist vertical punch) iojin tonjak, nagagi (continuous motion, forwards).

3. Gunnun so, ap joomuk kaunde jirugi (walking stance, forefist middle punch), ap joomuk nopunde jirugi, balli tonjak, durougi, (forefist high punch, fast motion, backwards)

4. Gunnan so, sonbadak baro golcho makgi (walking stance, palm obverse hooking block) sonbadak bandae golcho makgi (palm reverse hooking block), ap joomuk kaunde jirugi, yon gyol tonjak nagagi (middle forefist punch, connecting motion, forwards)

5. Gunnan so, sang sonkal soopyong taerigi (walking stance, twin knifehand horizontal strike) pyung joomuk bandae nopunde jirugi, durougi (open fist reverse high punch, normal motion, backwards)

2. Gunnun so, bakat palmok kaunde bandae ap makgi (walking stance, outerforearm middle reverse front block), ap joomuk nopunde jirugi, iojin tonjak, nagagi (forefist high punch, continuous motion, forwards) Sam-il 30 & 31

3. Gunnun so, doo palmok nopunde makgi (walking stance, double forearm high block), najunde bakat palmok bandae makgi, balli tonjak, durougi, (low outer forearm reverse block, fast motion, backwards) Yoo-Sin 34 & 35

4. Gunnun so, nopunde bandal jirugi (walking stance, high crescent punch), pulling the back foot into narani so, kaunde dollyo jirugi, chonchonhi, nagagi (parallel stance, middle turning punch, slow motion, forwards)

5. Niunja so, doo joomuk najunde jirugi (L-stance, double fist low punch) changing into sonkal dung nopunde makgi, durougi (reverse knife hand high block, normal motion, backwards)

6. Gunnan so, kyocha sonkal chookyo makgi (walking stance, x-knife hand rising block) kaunde bandae jirugi (middle reverse punch, normal motion, forwards)

7. Gojung so, digutja jirugi (fixed stance, u-shape punch) adjusting the front foot into dwitbal so joongji joomuk nopunde jirugi, durougi (rearfoot stance, middle knuckle fist high punch, backwards)

8. Gunnan so, sonkal san makgi (walking stance, knife hand w-shape block) sonkal dung dollimyo makgi (reverse knife hand circular block, normal motion, forwards)

4 th Degree 1. Twimyo sonkal yop taerigi (flying knifehand side strike), land and shift backward into niunja so, kyocha joomuk momchau makgi, (L-stance, x-fist checking block)

2. Gunnan so kyocha joomuk noolyo makgi (walking stance x-fist pressing block) maintain stance, kyocha sonkal chookyo makgi, (x-knifehand rising block), continuous motion. (moving backwards)

3. Gunnan so, Ghin joomuk Nopunde jirugi, (Walking stance, long fist high punch), sonkal najunde bandae bakuro makgi, (knifehand low reverse outward block) forwards normal motion.

4. Annun so sonkal dung san makgi (sitting stance reverse knifehand w-shape block), sonkal nopunde ap taerigi, (knifehand high front strike, bringing the back hand in front of the forhead, while standing up) normal motion, stepping to the side.

5. Gunnan so sang yop joomuk soopyoong taerigi, (walking stance twin side fist horizontal strike), maintain stance, sonkal nopunde bandae ap taerigi (knifehand high reverse front strike, bringing the palm of other hand on the elbow joint) normal motion, backwards.

6. Gojung so sonkal kaunde bakuro makgi, sonbadak miro makgi, (fixed stance knifehand middle outward block, palm pushing block), maintain same leg in front & slide to form niunja so ap joomuk bandae jirugi, (L-stance forefist reverse punch) normal motion, forwards.

7. Annun so sonkal najunde yop makgi, (sitting stance, knifehand low side block), maintain stance, opun sonkut kaunde tulgi, (flat fingertip middle thrust) normal motion, stepping side to side.

Matsogi (Sparring)

The student testing may choose to bring a partner with them to the testing from their club/region with whom they have prepared 3, 2 & 1 step sparring routines. The partner must present in full dobok and will only perform for the step sparring aspect of the grading

Sambo Matsogi (3 step sparring) The grading narrator will designate the attacks. The defender should choose an appropriate defence and counter attack following the principles of 3 step sparring.

Ibo Matsogi (2 step sparring) The grading narrator will designate the attacks as above, the defender must choose the appropriate defence and counter attack following the principles of 2 step sparring.

Ilbo Matsogi (1 step sparring) The defender will tell the attacker what to attack with and must choose an appropriate defence and counter attack following the principles of 1 step sparring.

Jayoo Matsogi (Free sparring) Free sparring will be conducted with safety equipment on.

Hosinsul (Self–defence)

Candidates will work in pairs. The defender will tell the attacker what attack to use in each scenario.

The defender must show ability to defend in a number of scenarios

Examples:

Straight & swing punch, headlock, chokes (front, side, rear, at wall etc), tackles, bearhugs. Some can begin at close distance, some at long range. For chokes and locks, some can begin already applied, other the attacker must try to apply.

Short stick defence i.e. downward attack, inward swing, outward swing

Basic ground defence i.e. defender on floor get to feet before attacker can pin you, side choke, straddle choke attackers knees on floor either side of defender.
