How many have you received to date? Feel free to stop by and talk to your teacher about your child’s progress to see how the adjustment to this year is going. Remember to pray daily for your child and the school. This is the last official week of summer. Harvest time has started. Who is ready to get to work? We are believing for a great year at the school for students, staff and parents. We can and should be praying for this to happen. Don’t save all your prayer time for when things are not going so well. Let’s take the opportunity to fill up the cup of praise with prayer! Everyone is invited to come and enjoy some fellowship and hotdogs this Thursday from 5:00 to 7:30 at the school for the Annual Picnic in the Parking Lot. It is also the official last day of Summer. What a great way to celebrate and build fellowship—with hot dogs. If you want more than a hot dog then A to L is asked to bring a salad or dessert and M to Z is asked to bring a desert or salad or you can switch it up and do the opposite. It is up to you. Everyone is asked to bring their lawn chairs or tailgates to sit at while visiting with everyone in the school. It is supposed to be a beautiful day, no snow, so plan to attend. Feel free to give us a heads up for how many are coming so we have a rough number for hotdogs but if you forget to tell us then just show up anyways. This is your opportunity to meet the new teachers and see which ones have new hairdos and to meet the other moms and dads in your class and in the school. You will also get to check out the changes in the school. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 5:00 until 6:00 to meet with parents on an individual basis. Please pre-book your time slot so you don’t get caught in a big line-up. When you arrive before 6 follow your child as they give you a tour of the school and show you all the cool stuff, like their locker, the place they put their shoes, the spot where they dropped their sandwich, and their classroom . . . At 6:00 come back upstairs and outside if you are not already there as that is when the hotdogs and fellowship officially start. Sometime after 6:30 the soccer game—adults versus the non-adults begins. Just before 6:30 the board would like to have an informal information sharing time to share the good news of what has been happening and what will be happening. While the adults are talking, the students are warming up on the field with a pre-soccer game. After that short session you are invited to enjoy the fellowship with other parents or play the soccer game or meet with your teacher if you didn’t get a chance before the hot dog time. Everything wraps up at 7:30. Come for a great night. As a bonus add on this year to the Picnic in the Parking Lot, all parents of the High School Mission’s trip and Grade 12 Grad Parents are invited to Mr. Krause’s classroom for an informational meeting at 5:41. Please encourage your child if he or she has not yet said this month’s Scripture memory—Psalm 34:1-10. Congratulations to the following students for saying the scripture in the first week: Jan Marie A., Sonia M., Tahlysa H., Joecill M., Jannah N., Jordan S., Tyler N., Noah W., Nina E., Wil V., Kennedy G., Emma G.
From all of us that receive, thank you parents and staff for your commitment to the children of the school. Thank you for the extra things you do to serve these precious young ones. Thank you for getting up early and going to bed late. Bless you. Parents, please be aware that we have children in the school with allergies, including peanut allergies. Do your best to respect the needs of those around you. One year is a long time to wait but that is how long some of us have been waiting for this Tuesday’s Elephant appreciation Day. Dress up, bring your favourite elephant joke, your pet elephant and an elephant sized lunch for September 19 and enjoy the first school sprit dress up day of the year. Pull out your trunks and big ears and great stories about our favourite grey animal because elephant appreciation day is almost here. Be creative. This special day kicks off another year of school spirit. Show it off. There are still more students to come into the school. Continue to pray them in. Also pray for the financial needs of the school. God knows our needs and we will be looked after. Please be aware that tuition fees are due by the end of September. If you desire to spread the amount out over the year please make arrangements with Mrs. Schimke in the office. Anyone that has not made arrangements by the end of September will be contacted so be proactive in your responsibilities. Remember to pray for Jasmine and Samuel, or two sponsor children. Anyone looking to shed a few summer pounds, get more active or just hang out with a bunch of fun people are invited to join Lori for a free workout on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30AM in the chapel. The group is starting next Monday but there is still time for folks to rally together this week to try and talk Lori out of doing this exercise stuff before someone actually starts sweating! The cost is free but there will be some personal costs to doing this workout such as pain, tight muscles, discomfort sitting down or standing up or climbing upstairs or going down the stairs or walking or sleeping and perhaps even breathing, but in the end you will feel marvellous, or so the theory says! There is guaranteed to be some laughter that may mask some of the pain your body will experience as it begins to change shape. The good news is it is for ladies only so all the men can give a big cheer because they don’t have to go. They can willingly start getting children ready for school, which may or may not be more intense than the workout. Thanks to everyone that enjoyed a day at the corn maize last Friday. The students had a great time and I hope you did too. We desire to maintain safe, sanitary conditions for the students at lunchtime. Your help in the following areas will be greatly appreciated. If you are sending a hot lunch for your child please send it in a reheat able container that can be microwaved. Students require their own dish and cutlery that they will be able to bring home or dispose of in the garbage. Please do all food preparation at home and send it to be reheated in the microwave. Students do not have access to the stoves or dishes at the school. If you are looking for a healthy, easy snack, send a piece of fruit. They come in their own container. Thanks for your support and cooperation. Hot Lunch is back! This Thursday is Taco in a Bag. The cost is $2.50 as is the cost for every hot lunch, which will be Thursdays on the weeks we will be offering hot lunch. Keep checking this spot for other hot lunch menus coming up. This Friday is the first Flex Day of the year. There is no school on Flex Days. It is your day to be flexible and do the appointment, errand thing needing done with your children or whatever you choose. Enjoy the flexing. The Junior High classes are headed to Mount Baldy this Thursday. They will return plenty early to enjoy picnic in the parking lot. Check your permission slips for details. If you are planning to audition for the Sylvan Lake Talent Contest to support the Refugee Program, the deadline to register is this Wednesday. Forms are available at the school entrance and can be dropped of to Mrs. Rivers by Wednesday September 20. Mrs. Wester is doing a reorganization of the library. She has picked some books that are available by the office for families to take home to add to their personal library. Having these books available will help in the transition we await the reopening of the library in a new, useable, and reorganized form. Thank you to the Rabin family for providing the school with the updated signage, using our new logo and mission statement and cool colours! HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY to Eva G. on September 21!
Classroom News
Pre-K This week in Preschool we are learning the letter "A" for Apple. We have been working on recognizing the first letter of each other’s names as we've played our apple hunt game, and everyone knows their own letter... Success! I will be having my students learn to write their own names with the first letter being upper case, and the rest in lower case. Please send a peeled and quartered apple with your child to class on September 21/22 as we will be making apple crisp in the kitchen (and then eating it when it's ready with ice cream!). Next week we will be going on our Fall Walk. This will be an off the property field trip and a few adult drivers will be required. We will go to the walking path behind Steffie Woima for some leaf collecting. Parents and siblings are welcome to come. We will start at the usual class time that day and then leave after snack for our field trip. Please let Mrs. Mearns know if you are able to volunteer as a driver and how many extras you can take. Thank you

Grade 2/3 Autumn’s crisp breezes are settling in and we are also getting used to classroom routines. Today was our first day for writing spelling tests this year, which are on Mondays. Thank you to those who brought devices to school, which we use on Mondays and Fridays, (or whatever the last day of school is for the week). Students can review their new spelling words in their agendas or play games that reinforce their spelling words on Spelling City at home. Please be thinking about which culture your child will be bringing to school on Thursday, Oct. 12th for Culture in A Bag. Soon, I will be asking them which country they are doing, so I can print out a map for our class parade. We hope as many parents as possible can attend the student presentations at 10:40 am that day. We will eat any tantalising cultural snacks your child has brought at the end. If you have any questions or need help, please see me. In math we are working on place value, the value of a digit and expanding numbers. E.g. 65 = 60 +5. 137= 100+30+7. Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday for Picnic in the Parking Lot!
