SCI Muncy Reports Death of an Inmate

Muncy, PA – State Correctional Institution at Muncy Superintendent Robert Smith reports the death of an inmate. At 1:12 a.m., an inmate in the prison’s Diversionary Treatment Unit, Teasia Long, was unresponsive in her cell. Officers responded immediately and found Long hanging by a bed sheet. The officers provided immediate emergency first aid and continued to do so until paramedics arrived. Long was declared dead at 1:40 a.m. by Muncy Valley Hospital physician. Long, 18, was committed to the DOC by Snyder County on March 20, 2015. She was serving a 9- to 40-year sentence for 1st Degree Murder, Criminal Attempt. As is the policy with all inmate deaths, the Pennsylvania State Police and coroner were contacted. The State Police Barracks at Montoursville will conduct an investigation.
