Committee on Education Policies and Planning Minutes for 6 September 2017

In attendance: Cerri Banks, Erica Bastress-Dukehart, Beau Breslin, Marta Brunner, Sarah Coker, Steve Ives, Henry Jaffe, Janet Sorensen

1. Minutes from May retreat were approved. 2. Marta Brunner welcomed everyone back to CEPP and welcomed our new member, Steve Ives, Assistant Professor in Health and Exercise Sciences. FEC is working on appointing another new faculty member to CEPP. 3. The Committee discussed the composition of the working groups for the development of learning goals and criteria for the new general education curriculum. There was concern regarding the size of the working groups. Erica and Marta agreed to renew conversations with FEC regarding the groups. 4. Marta presented a beta version of the sign up webpage for the general education working groups and the committee made suggestions for changes. Marta will send out another version for the committee to consider. CEPP agreed that we would not present the sign up website at Friday’s faculty meeting. We will send out invitations to sign up and the website before the October meeting. 5. Beau Breslin, DOF/VPAA, discussed the progress his office, in collaboration with CEPP and Curriculum Committee, has made on a new Black Studies minor. This will be an ongoing conversation. 6. Erica will announce at the faculty meeting on Friday, September 8th that CEPP has endorsed two department/program name changes. One is for Latin American Studies (minor), which will change its name to Latin American and Latinx Studies. The other name change is Health and Exercise Sciences (Major), which will change its department name to the Department of Health and Human Physiological Sciences, and its major name to Human Physiological Sciences. For the latter department and major name changes, CEPP will hold a faculty forum on Tuesday, September 12th from 3-4pm in Davis Auditorium. Erica will send that announcement and rationale to the faculty. 7. CEPP discussed possible agenda items for the year.
