It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in 14th Eastern Mediterranean Family Medicine Symposium “Creating the future of family medicine together”. Symposium will be held in Adana, Hilton Hotel from 22.05.2015 to 24.05.2015. The symposium will be held in Turkish and English. Presentations will be in English at the international hall. Before the symposium from 18 th of May on Monday to 21 st of May on Thursday we are also organizing “ The First Turkish Mini Exchange Programme “ organized in collaboration with VdGM offering “ 5 places for European visitors “ who will enjoy a rotation week in a primary care center in Adana.
SCHEDULE:
The visitors are expected to arrive on Sunday 17 th of May. The participants will visit a primary care center on 18-21th of May in the mornings, will participate in different social activities in the afternoons including an old town tour through the amazing city of Adana. In addition there will be one day visit to one of the following practices due to participants wish: rural primary care center, community primary care center, private hospital family medicine clinic or a school health clinic where GP’s are working Finally they will be able to assist to the symposium on Friday, where the candidates will run a workshop sharing their experiences about the GP training program and national primary care model in their own countries. Organizing commitee will arrange symposium fees. Participants will be hosted by Turkish GPs/trainees during their stay between 17-24th of May Participants should cover their own travel expenses to and from Turkey.

Criteria for selection: - To be a GP trainee / GP within 5 years of qualification - First come- first served rule.

ABOUT THE LOCATION:
Adana is situated on the Seyhan River in Çukurova Plain which is in the South of Taurus Mountains. Adana, which has approximately 160 km shore of Mediterranean Sea, is on the crossroads of important transportation that link Europe to Asia. Adana’s history dates back to 6000 B.C. because of its geographical location situated on the fertile and watery delta of Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers. Adana is one of the most important cities of ancient Cilicia. It is the cradle of lots of civilisation from The Hittites to The Ottomans. According to the Greek Mythology, the name “Adana” comes from the son of God of Heavens “Adanus”. It is located on the bank of Seyhan (Sarus) river which makes large bends on Taurus Mountains, plains and empties into the Mediterranean Sea. Tepebag Mound which is in the center of Adana belongs to the Neolithic period when humankind started built-in life.
The city has 2,349,478 population. Highway and railway connection with Middle East are enabled through Adana. These connections are enabled through Gülek Strait on Taurus Mountains. % 49 of total area is mountainous, % 23 is plateau and % 27 is plain. Adana has a typical Mediterranean climate. Winters are warm and summers are hot and dry. %51 of rainfall is in winter, % 26 in spring, % 18 in autumn and %5 in summer. The coldest month is January (average 9 C) , the hottest month is August (average 28 C).
