MINUTES

CALL TO ORDER:

Ms. Cho, Chair called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Motion(I) was made by Mr. Bowden, seconded by Mr. Parker and unanimously carried to approve the July 22, 2009 meeting minutes.

COMPLAINT COMMITTEE REPORT

The Complaint Committee reported on the status of the following complaints:

Motion (II) was made by Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Edmeades and unanimously carried to accept the report of the Complaint Committee.

APPLICATION DENIED FOR EXAMINATION

Motion (III) was made by Mr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Edmeades and unanimously carried to deny one application for A.R.E. examination because the candidate did not meet the minimum requirement. Maryland Board of Architects August 26, 2009 Page 3

The Board approved the following applications for the certificate of authorization:

APPLICATIONS APPROVED FOR REINSTATEMENT

The Board unanimously approved 7 applications for reinstatement.

NEW BUSINESS

Information Technology Update

Ms Edwards informed the Board that the IT projects are progressing on schedule. The Board can expect to see the reinstatement application online. She is currently working on the online examination applications.

OLD BUSINESS

Retired Status

The Board reopened this discussion by reviewing the Board for Professional Land Surveyors regulations regarding the retired status. After careful review, the Board asked counsel to circulate a proposed draft of the Retired Status Legislation patterned after the professional land surveyors’ statute. The Board also agreed to continue the discussions at the next Board meeting.

The Board now moves towards conducting the public hearing in October. Shannon Davis, Outreach Coordinator will post the hearing information on the Board’s web site as well as in the Newsletter if time allows. Maryland Board of Architects August 26, 2009 Page 4

Continuing Education Waiver

Paul Weistma, Maryland architect wrote to the Board requesting a wavier of the continuing education requirement for medical reasons. The Board requested that he provide a statement from his doctor.

Upon receipt of the requested information, the Board will grant Mr. Weistma the CEU waiver.

HEARING SCHEDULE

September 23, 2009 - Hearing on Proposed Regulations regarding the ”Education and Experience matrix

October 28, 2009 - Hearing on Proposed Legislation regarding the “Retired Status” for Architects

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, motion (IV) was made by Mr. Edmeades, seconded by Mr. Bowden and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting at 11:15 a.m.
