TITLE: Head Custodian
FLSA: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent, with one to two years of demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the job duties; prior custodial and general maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge of custodial operations and general maintenance procedures. Knowledge of the occupational and safety procedures on the job.
Knowledge of the proper and safe use of equipment, tools and materials necessary to complete assignments.
Ability to instruct, train and supervise the activities of the custodial staff.
Ability to send and write, and to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work well with supervisor, co-workers and the general public.
Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds
Ability to score at the eighth grade level in math and reading on the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) (preferred)
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Custodial Services and Training
SUPERVISES: Custodians assigned to the school
JOB GOAL: To work with the principal, custodial staff and custodial trainer/supervisor to coordinate cleaning and sanitation in the facility and to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs all types of custodial service to maintain a high state of cleanliness and to promote healthy training learning environment for students with emphasis on sanitation of drinking fountains, sinks and toilets.
2. Inspects school facilities and equipment for special maintenance requirements; reports problems to the proper administration or staff.
3. Supervises custodial employees in cleaning and proper and safe use of equipment and supplies with strong emphasis on indoor air quality issues.
4. Provides instruction and training to custodial staff as needed; ensures that work is completed satisfactorily.
5. Order custodial supplies from the District warehouse and maintains an adequate inventory.
6. Establishes methods to ensure that mops, rags, chemicals, etc. are stored properly.
7. Operates maintenance equipment such as buffers, vacuums, etc.; utilizes various cleaning supplies, hand tools, and cleaning agents.
8. Changes light bulbs and exit sign bulbs as needed.
9. Understands proper use of fire extinguishers and procedures to follow in case of fire.
10. Conducts training in safety procedures for employees assigned to the facility, including the Right to Know law.
11. Establishes procedures to insure that all windows and doors are locked each day and lights turned out.
12. Coordinates staff to work events that are scheduled during times that the custodial staff is not otherwise scheduled to work.
13. Remains available for emergency or unplanned events that may transpire during the school year.
14. Promotes good public relations through professional and ethical execution of job responsibilities.
15. Participates in staff development programs.
16. Performs other duties as directed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board. Revised 6/29/2011
