Huntsman, Callahan named District 17 Football MVPs

Cy Woods High senior quarterback Colton Huntsman earned district offensive MVP honors for the second straight season, and Cy Ridge senior linebacker Collin Callahan was named the Class 5A-District 17 defensive MVP.

Huntsman scored 40 touchdowns and led the Wildcats (10-4) to the state quarterfinals for the second straight season.

Callahan led Cy Ridge’s defense, and the Rams reached the playoffs, losing to District 18 champion Alief Taylor, 37-36, in the first round.

Cy Ranch sophomore running back Keith Ford was named the district’s offensive newcomer of the year, and Cy Falls sophomore defensive lineman Jacobi Hunter earned district defensive newcomer of the year honors.

Cy Creek’s Greg McCaig, Cy-Fair’s Ed Pustejovsky and Cy Woods’ David Jones shared district coach of the year honors after leading their respective teams to a share of the district title.
