INTRANET NETWORK TECHNICIAN

Job Summary The Intranet Network Technician provides operations and software support to PVT Intranet and LAN users. Assists in administering the network, and in design, implementation, organization and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities and Duties Specifically, the Intranet Support Technician:

 Surveys performance and operating needs and goals of LAN users;

 Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams and vendors to provide timely answers to hardware and software questions. Can readily answer “most frequently asked” questions; searches operations manual for answers to complex questions;

 Assists in the installation, customization, and maintenance of computer and networking devices and software to provide network users access to enter and retrieve information via the network and to utilize appropriate network services;

 Develops and monitors appropriate security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized access, and damage to data;

 Does not use administrative privileges to access unauthorized data;

 Keeps confidential any sensitive information inadvertently observed in course of performing duties;

 Assists users with day to day help desk requests, including but not limited to installation of software, installation of hardware, workstation maintenance, and troubleshooting issues with software, hardware, access, and network connectivity;

 Assists in maintenance and repair of equipment when necessary;

 Works closely with network team to identify trends and collaborate on solutions to difficult problems;

 Recommends specific training for users and identifies sources of training;

 Attends training sessions on new products and provides input for the development of user manuals for these products;

 Assist IT team in securing data and with daily backups;

 Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted;

 Must be able to climb ladders, kneel, stoop, bend and stand for long periods;

 Other tasks as required. Personnel Specifications

Education/Experience Knowledge and skills usually acquired through a high school diploma and intense work related experience with Internet access, multiple business software packages including Microsoft desktop operating systems and software, Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008/2008 R2, Exchange Server 2007 and Cisco technologies. A degree in Computer Science, certifications, and/or equivalent work experience preferred.

Job Knowledge Experience with PC’s, laptops, network printers, fax, and servers with knowledge of hardware and software technology. Experience with Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 server technology is preferred.

Related Skills Sound analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.

Position Relationships The Intranet Support Technician reports to the IT Network Supervisor.

Internal Works closely with all network users. Collaborates on projects with Data Services/Business Services departments.
