BHHS Concert & Symphonic Band Performance at the SCSBOA Festival At Santa Monica HS – Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Dear parents, Your son or daughter will be participating in a Southern California School Band and Orchestra District Band festival on Thursday, March 4, 2010. The festival will take place at Santa Monica High School, 601 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA. 90405. You are more than welcome to attend and admission is free.

BHHS believes that co-curricular music acitivites should be provided to supplement and enrich the regular classroom acitivities. Participation in festivals offers the opportunity of achieving a high standard of music performance through the use of the music lists and adjudication by trained and qualified experts in music education. Judges are provided to make constructive criticism using specific adjudication forms and tape recorded comments that will later be reviewed in class by the students. No one ensemble is the winner; there is no “first place”. Ratings are given, including Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor. The rating received is not as important as the learning process that has preceded the performance. Participants in the festival become eligible to go on to the regional festival if they receive a “Superior” rating for their performance.

INFORMATION & ITINERARY

12:45PM – Arrive Band Room in Concert Attire and eat lunch

1:00 – 1:15pm – Board Buses (2) - 1:15pm – depart BHHS for Samohi

1:45pm arrive Samohi – Symphonic Band to Auditorium; Concert Band to Warm-up Room

2:00pm – Concert Band – Warm-up and Tuning/Symphonic Band watches performance

2:30pm – Concert Band performance: 1st Overture, 2nd Tangents A. Symphonic Band watches Concert Band’s performance

3:00pm – Concert Band to Sight-reading Room/Symphonic Band to Warm-up Room

3:30pm – Symphonic Band Performance: 1st Emperata Overture, 2nd An American E. Concert Band watches performance in Barnum Hall

4:00pm – Symphonic Band to Sight-reading Room/ Concert Band watches next performance

4:30pm – Get Results, Board buses, depart to BHHS

5:00pm (approx.) – Arrive at BHHS
