 Fully detailed design drawings to be produced prior to commencement.  Support material and equipment to be selected and checked against specifications to ensure fitness for purpose.  Access equipment to be planned and provided to allow safe access in both preparation and construction phases.  Load-bearing properties of support base surface to be checked.  All personnel to be issued and wear safety helmets.  Personnel working in / near wet concrete must wear PPE as required by the relevant COSHH assessment.  Site traffic will avoid the area where work is in progress as far as practicable, and where not this will have been considered in calculations. All support equipment will be checked to ensure it is in good order and the correct type and capacity.  Supports will be positioned vertically, and as indicated on drawings.  Areas beneath falsework will be cleared of personnel before loading or unloading of the structure.  Where safe access and egress cannot be maintained because of the work, adequate arrangements will be made by the provision of safety nets, or fall arrest equipment and safety harnesses.  Site management will ensure support equipment is correctly positioned before loads are applied. All necessary drawings will be available before work begins.  Progress will be monitored to ensure the continued safety of personnel and the public is maintained.  All temporary works must be co-ordinated with other trades and contractors who may be affected.  Training and instruction must be provided to all operatives and supervisory staff involved in the erection or dismantling of falsework.

Risk assessments and method statements are issued to all workers involved in the activity. This generic assessment must be supplemented by a site specific risk assessment.
