1 This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995).

2 This unit standard could be assessed over several design briefs or specific tasks.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Use a range of media and techniques in freehand sketching of design ideas.

Range media could include but is not limited to - graphite pencils, colour pencils and markers, plain papers.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Choice of media and techniques suits the design ideas and subject.

1.2 Use of techniques suits the selected media in expressing the design ideas.

Outcome 2

Express design concepts as 2D freehand annotated views.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Sketches communicate design concept ideas in terms of their intended purpose.

2.2 Techniques selected are suitable for the subject in expressing the design concept ideas.

2.3 Notes support the design sketches in terms of clarification of ideas and relevance to the task.

Outcome 3

Express design concepts as 3D freehand annotated views.

Range 3D views could include but are not limited to - pictorial, everyday objects.

Evidence requirements

3.1 Sketches communicate design concept ideas in terms of their intended purpose.

3.2 Selected proportion and orientation clarify view of design concept ideas.

3.3 Techniques selected are suitable for the subject in expressing the design concept ideas.

3.4 Notes support the design sketches in terms of clarification of ideas and relevance to the task.
