I. Course Description: This course is designed for all grade levels that want to develop their learning from Middle School Computer Applications classes. This Business Computer Applications class focuses on the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Adobe Photoshop. We will use teacher-created assignments for this class and not use a textbook.

II. Specific Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, students will learn about the following topics: 1. Microsoft Word 2. Microsoft PowerPoint 3. Microsoft Excel 4. Microsoft Access 5. Microsoft Publisher 6. Adobe Photoshop

III. Format and Procedures: This class will primarily use Canvas for all of our assignments, discussions, quizzes, and exams. Canvas is a great education tool that gives students immediate feedback on their progress during the current school year. When students submit their assignments, it is like a permanent record of assignments because if there are any issues, we can always check the submitted file(s). If students are absent, it is their responsibility to save the assignment file from the Canvas modules to their H:/drive. It is important to understand that previous assignments will not remain published after the due dates. Therefore, students need to save the assignment files immediately upon their return to school. Students are to be well-mannered and responsible to complete their assignments in a timely fashion.

Students will use Microsoft Office 2010 (school provided in labs) to complete their class assignments.

IV. Canvas Assignment Submission: Assignments will have deadlines so please submit your assignments ON TIME using canvas. However, if students are absent the day an assignment is due, please see the teacher the next day in class to discuss ways to receive credit for the assignment. After assignments are DUE in canvas, you will not be able to access that assignment file so please save it to your H:/drive the assignment is introduced in class.

NO HARD COPIES OF ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

V. Grading Procedures: Grades for Financial Management will be based on the following business department grading protocol:

1. Assessments (Tests and/or Projects) – 50% 2. Quizzes (announced or unannounced) – 20% a. Quizzes are categorized as in-class assessments to prep for a test 3. Classwork (includes homework, classwork, and participation) – 30% 4. Late work will be accepted as follows: a. The earned percentage grade will be reduced by 10% a day up to 3 days. b. If the student is absent, the student gets 1 day per absence to complete missing assignments. c. After 3 class periods, late work will no longer be accepted.

VI. Academic Integrity The Central Dauphin schools use a 100-point system of evaluation with 60 as the lowest passing grade. Numerical grades may be equated to performance level in accordance with the following criteria:

a. 90-100/Superior b. 80-89 / Above Average c. 70-79 / Average d. 60-69 / Below Average e. 0-59 / Failure

Cheating/Plagiarizing: Any pupil caught cheating on tests or plagiarizing papers will receive no credit for the work. In determining averages, zero (0) will be used as the numerical grade.

If/when we do group work in this class, the group work will be divided equally and the “individual” assignments will be checked before the end of assignment “collaboration,” otherwise, no credit will be awarded.

Canvas will be used for all quizzes and exams, but retakes will use a different form of assessment.
