Comments/Explanations
Apprentice C Willis advised Stewards that she would be unable to fulfil her engagements tonight as she was unwell. Chantal Willis was advised that she must submit a medical certificate prior to riding trackwork, trials or races again.
Stewards granted permission for Jockey S Brazil to replace Apprentice C Willis on Divine Archer tonight as there was no other suitable apprentice available.
RACE 1 – AUTOBARN BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES
Before entering the birdcage Novaover was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.
Prior to the start Novaover became restless in the barrier and as the gates were opened threw its head in the air and subsequently then stood flat footed, losing considerable ground (4L).
Coin Toss jumped away awkwardly.
Len’s Luck and Status Seeker were both slow to begin (1L).
Shortly after the start Status Seeker was taken in off its course by Gee Gee’s Boss (S Maskiell) which after being initially clear then dictated to Status Seeker when that gelding improved to its inside. After taking into account all the circumstances Stephen Maskiell was notified to ensure he is clear of other runners when in similar circumstances.
During the early and middle stages Delago Delight raced wide.
Near the 400 metres Status Seeker was tightened for room by Coin Toss which shifted in marginally before being corrected by its rider.
Rounding the home turn Len’s Luck was held up for a short distance.
Approaching the 200 metres Len’s Luck shifted out in an attempt to obtain a run where there was insufficient room between Staples Gee Gee and One At A Time resulting in the gelding continuing to be held up before gaining a clear run near the 100 metres.
Approaching the 100 metres Master Joseph (S Carr) shifted out when under pressure towards Staples Gee Gee before being corrected. Shortly after this Master Joseph again continued to lay out when under pressure resulting in Staples Gee Gee laying out away from that gelding and having to be restrained to avoid the heels of One At A Time. Sigrid Carr was notified that she would be expected to stop riding and straighten her mounts sooner than she did on this occasion.
Dean Holland rider of Novaover which commenced to give ground from the 800 metres explained that he did not ride the mare out from that point as he felt that something was amiss. A post-race veterinary examination of Novaover revealed the mare had lacerations to the inside of its mouth.
RACE 2 – LAUNCESTON MITSUBISHI 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES
Private Currency was incorrectly shown in the race book as a blinkered horse, this information was dispersed prior to the event.
Musical Man was slow to begin (1L).
Shortly after the start Digger’s Dame was hampered when tightened for room between Private Currency and Blue Tier which was taken in slightly by Pisa Work.
In the early stages of the race Jewel Box raced wide.
Approaching the 800 metres Divine Archer had to be restrained in an attempt to avoid the heels of Blue Tier when the pace eased. Divine Archer then over-raced for some distance thereafter.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight Blue Tier was unable to obtain a clear run.
Approaching the 100 metres Private Currency had to be steadied when Justamenace layed in towards that gelding.
Kim Moore rider of Digger’s Dame explained that after receiving some interference after the start the filly was unable to muster speed. Mrs Moore added that from the 400 metres it responded to her riding and finished off the race well. Stewards noted her comments.
** Stewards upgraded the track to DEAD (4) at 7.35 pm **
RACE 3 – COATES HIRE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES
Tap It In and Derailleur were both slow to begin (1L).
From The Bronx raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Near the 1000 metres Bundaleda hung in despite the efforts of the rider. The gelding continued to lay in for the majority of the race and in the home straight also layed in resulting in David Pires being unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner.
For some distance passing the 900 metres Heartbreak Lass over-raced resulting in Rhonda Mangan rider of the mare shifted out wider on the track to avoid the heels of other runners.
On straightening Quest Master layed in and brushed with From The Bronx resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced.
Justin Haitana rider of From The Bronx was reprimanded under AR 137A(5)(a)(ii), the particulars being that he used his whip on 8 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres which is 3 more than permitted under the rule. In not issuing a more severe penalty Stewards took into consideration Justin Haitana’s recent record and lengthy break from riding.
Brendon McCoull rider of Viva La Witch which performed below expectations explained that in his view the mare felt sore during the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate must be submitted prior to Viva La Witch racing again. Trainer John Blacker indicated that the mare may well be retired. RACE 4 – TOLL TASMANIA 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 METRES
Stewards granted permission for the connections to remove the tongue tie from Goodtime Story after the mare became fractious in the mounting yard prior to the event.
Aladoni was slow to begin (1L).
Shortly after the start Northern Lady bumped with Sh’Bourne Devil when taken in slightly by Frogmoor Louie.
Between the 900 and 700 metres Yackety Sax got its head up when over racing.
Rokeby Lad and Sheza Fatty Boomba raced wide throughout.
Rounding the home turn Frogmoor Louie was briefly held up for a run.
Near the 300 metres Goodtime Story was restrained when Poucher shifted in slightly.
In the home straight Rokeby Lad laid in when under pressure.
Approaching the 100 metres Yackety Sax was inconvenienced when shifting in away from the heels of Aladoni which displayed a tendency to lay in.
RACE 5 – TATTSBET.COM STAKES - 1200 METRES
On jumping away Too Many Reds was hampered when tightened between Rebel Bride and Black ‘N’ Tough when both horses shifted ground.
Passing the 100 metres Mister John shifted out and brushed Youthful Jack.
RACE 6 – TASMANIAN TURF CLUB 1000 GUINEAS - 1600 METRES
On arrival on course Carnelian Crystal underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to race.
Correct weight was delayed when Apprentice Sigrid Carr and the Trainer B McShane of fifth placegetter Spinning Jenny wished to view the official film in relation to lodging an objection. After doing so they proceeded with objections against Anthony Darmanin rider of the second placegetter At The Weekend and Dean Holland rider of third placegetter Carnelian Crystal alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from all parties it was established that inside the 80 metres At The Weekend shifted in towards the running line of Spinning Jenny. Shortly after near the 50 metres Carnelian Crystal shifted out. Sigrid Carr continued to ride her mount out with negligible interference and as the Stewards could not be satisfied that the level of interference was greater than the margin between the horses at the finish the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared. Apprentice S Carr was subsequently advised that her protest was bordering on frivolous.
Iggimacool and Geegee Pretty Jess were slow to begin (1L).
Shortly after the start Incum Coming shifted in and took Hoop in towards the heels of Frolicked resulting in Hoop being hampered.
Cielo Duro and At The Weekend raced wide.
Passing the 800 metres Geegee Pretty Jess shifted out and contacted Hoop which was taken out onto Iggimacool.
Passing the 600 metres At The Weekend (A Darmanin) shifted out resulting in Cielo Duro being inconvenienced. Anthony Darmanin was notified to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. RACE 7 – CARLTON DRAUGHT BENCHBARK 78 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES
Tyson Buck rider of What Life Brings pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Yuppony resulting in that gelding having to be checked. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be in the mid range. Tyson Bucks licence to ride in races was suspended for two (2) Tasmanian race meetings to commence at midnight 22 January 2014 and to expire at midnight 2 February 2014. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Tyson Buck’s guilty plea and his record in relation to this offence.
Passing the 50 metres Ladali layed in when under pressure.
Stephen Maskiell rider of Short Story (NZ) was reprimanded under AR 144 for failing to weigh in after the gelding was unplaced.
RACE 8 – SOUTHERN CROSS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES
Gee Gee’s Lass underwent a veterinary examination after the trainer reported it had hit its hip when being removed from the float and was subsequently passed fit to race.
Fillout The Ticket (2L) and Acacia Bloom (1L) were both slow to begin.
Approaching the 1200 metres Regio got its head up when over racing and then raced wide.
Guru Rez and Gee Gee’s Lass also raced wide in the middle stages.
Near the 150 metres Regio shifted in slightly and brushed Fillout The Ticket.
