Course Description The objective of this course is to gain and apply the knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and grammar in numerous activities and explore the Hispanic culture.

Topics to be covered: Chapters: Lección Preliminar Nueva York – Unidad 4 Lección 1 ¡Vamos a compras!

Course Requirements  Each course is worth one credit.

 The length of each class is one full year.

 A Spanish dictionary is suggested, but not required.

 The student must take two years of the same foreign language in order to meet his or her graduation requirement.

Classroom Rules  Come to class on time and prepared to learn with all of your class materials (completed homework, book, workbook, notebook, writing utensil, and paper).  Be on task during the class period.  Respect yourself, materials, and others. Pick up after yourselves- help maintain an orderly classroom. Hold trash until the end of the period.  Students are expected to behave and adhere to the rules and regulations set by Blackman High School.  The use of cell phones is not permitted in class, unless otherwise directed.  Food, Candy, and Gum are NOT permitted in class.  No cheating/copying of any homework assignment, quiz, or test. (See Honor Code policy)  Attendance in every class is essential. Each student is responsible for any material/homework/quiz that is missed with an absence. (See Make Up Work policy) Honor Code I have a zero tolerance policy on cheating. If the student is found guilty of cheating, he/she will receive a zero for the assignment and a parent conference will be scheduled. Abuse of online translators is also a form of cheating and is unacceptable. Students must be responsible for their own work.

Assessment Plan

 Tests/ Quizzes/ Nine weeks tests. They will make up 50% of a student’s final 9-week grade.

 Assignments are daily. (Textbook exercises, worksheets, crossword puzzles, word searches, workbook pages, and etc…) They will make up 50% of a student’s final 9-week grade.

 Mid-term exams are mandatory and are taken in December. Final exams are taken in May. See the agenda to find out what you need to do in order to be exempt from the Spanish Final.

RCS scale: A 93-100, B 85-92, C 75-84, D 70-74, F 0-69

Make-Up/ Missing Work Blackman students complete all assignments. If a student fails to turn in an assignment, he/she will complete it during an additional academic session. The students will be penalized for not turning an assignment in on time unless the reason for the late assignment is covered by the absentee/make up policy (see below).

Upon returning to school, a student must arrange with the teacher to make up all homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. All homework must be made up immediately to keep from getting behind the rest of the class. Per RCS policy, students have 5 days to make up their missing assignments.

Materials Needed  Notebook- 3 ring binder (at least 1”) - 5 dividers (Vocabulary, Grammar, Culture, Journals, Graded Work)  Writing Utensil (pencil or blue/black ink pen)  Loose Leaf Paper  Dictionary- Spanish/English (Optional)  Flashcards- Index cards or plain paper cut evenly to make at least 2”x2” size.
