Pigeon Pool 2005 Rules

2008 SURVIVAL GOLF RULES - POOL 3 - Please read these rules completely. This pool start on April 11, 2008 at the Masters

One big CHANGE (not a rule change) for 2008 - these golf pools will be run at a third party website (the same site I run my football pools at). The website is www.officefootballpool.com (OFP for short) and the pool number you will need to join is 35320 and the password (as it is for all my pools) is the word – ‘golf ‘without the quotes. If you have played in my football pools (about 85% of you do) I am sure you will find the site very easy to use. After running my large football pools very successfully the past 2 years, OFP has reached out to me and asked if they could write some software to run my Survival Golf pools. So in a way, we are the guinea pigs for a product that hopefully they can bring to market but I am very happy to work with them in this goal. With the understanding that things may not always work perfectly I will state this conditional rule – if at any time you find the OFP system to be unfriendly to your computer skills (or lack thereof) you can revert back to emailing me your picks (on time) and I will load them into the OFP system for you (saving your email as verification of your picks if ever challenged). If necessary to revert back to the old way of emailing me picks (doubtful to happen) I will use my message board http://p066.ezboard.com/bjrwinklesmessageboard and my website at www.jrwinkle.com as backups to OFP. Reminder - No picks are made at these sites; these sites are just used to get all the weekly status / updates / rules / spreadsheets, etc. If you have any questions, email me ([email protected]) or call me on my cell at 908-510-3787 or home at 732-525-9554. But I firmly believe the OFP site will work just fine, so do not stress.

This is an elimination (survival) pool that runs until we have 1 winner or the survivors agree to a deal. The contest (pool 3) will begin at the Masters (Friday, April 11) and end with the BMW Championship (Sept 7). If this pool is still going after the BMW Championship, a vote (must be unanimous) of all survivors will take place to determine whether we continue the pool using the Fall Series events on the PGA Tour. Last year, both pools were over before NFL football started. We will play the PGA tour schedule except as noted: July 17 - 20 we will play the British Open NOT the US Bank Championship (Milwaukee) July 30 - Aug 3 we will play the WGC - Bridgestone NOT the Reno event

Rules of Play: You select a golfer each week before 2nd round action starts and you can NOT use that golfer again the rest of that pool. If the golfer you select wins that week, then you get a BYE the following week. If all players earn a BYE on any given week, then nobody will get the BYE and all players will play the following week. Your selected golfer must finish in the top 25 or tied for 25th (the first 5 weeks of the pool) or you are eliminated. Each week after that, the cut line for the pool will drop 1 place. So in week 6 it will be Top 24, week 7 it will be Top 23, week 8 it will be Top 22 and so on until it the pool ends or the cut line reaches Top 15. At no time will the cut line go below Top 15. If a golfer withdraws from the event after starting it, sorry but that is just tough luck. NOTE: After you register for this pool at OFP (and load your personal contact info there) please ALSO send me an email letting me knowing you are playing and also repeating your contact info. If you need more than 1 entry for this pool, the best way to “add entries” is via the link on the MY PICKS page. Call if you need help with OFP.

The entry fee is 100 per entry: (multiple entries are permitted)If I have never met you and you are late with $$ you are at risk of being eliminated. Basically send the money immediately. The collection process is a real pain in the butt. Send payment (via check) to me at: John Bovery, 1210 Harbour Club Drive, Parlin, NJ,08859

The Deadline for picks is: before any golfer tees it up in round 2 (be careful, sometimes with rain delays – the 2nd round may start before some golfers have finished round 1) – basically this means when the golfers are back east you should make the pick Thursday nights unless you get to a PC early on Friday mornings. No excuses will be accepted. OFP will shut the site down at the deadline time precisely. Send me an email if you are desperate. It only matters when I get the email (not when you send it), but some technical problems may be approved. There is a default for when no pick is made (except there are no defaults on week 1). The default will be the first player listed (alphabetically by last name on PGA Tour leader board) outside our weekly cut line at the time of the deadline. So if we are at the T25 cut line, the first golfer listed below that group is who you will get. This default also applies when a golfer is duplicated in error (but this can not happen thru OFP since they have safeguards built in to block this from happening). OFP makes note of any time the manager makes late adjustments.

Rain Delays: We will play our pool as long as the PGA plays, so with rain delays the deadline for the pick may be moved back – but it still remains - before any golfer tees it up in the 2nd round. Note: If you are not sure if we are playing, submit a pick and cover yourself just to be sure! If the PGA shortens an event and says it is “unofficial” (usually less than 54 holes) we will cancel that week as well, even if the purse money is distributed to the pros. GOOD LUCK TO ALL, have fun and hit ‘em straight.
