Purpose

The purpose of the EOPS Awards is to provide scholarship awards to students who are in good standing with the program, and have earned a 3.3 GPA and above. Three scholarship awards have been added to honor students who have shown a commitment to leadership and community service and who have overcome a difficulty to be a successful student. Students will be matched to the scholarship award most appropriate.

The Student of the Year Scholarship Award will be presented to a student who demonstrates all three of the above traits.

Awards

One Student of the Year scholarship award is available in an amount up to $1000 for each program: EOPS, CARE, SCI*FI.

The Leadership, Community Service, and Overcomer scholarship awards are also available in the amount of $200. All scholarship awards will be paid directly to the recipients based on remaining unmet financial need.

Eligibility

1. Applicants must be:

 Full-time or with an approved Reduction of Units

 In Good Standing with EOPS

2. Applicants must have completed at least two (2) semesters with EOPS at time of application.

3. Applicants must have had a 3.3 GPA in the Spring and Fall of the award year.

Application Requirements

To be considered for an EOPS Scholarship Award, applicants must email a completed application to EOPS by March 16th at 12:00 noon. The application must include:

1. The completed application form including one page (< 500 words) personal statement telling why you are applying for this award, and why you should get it. Include your educational and career goals.

2. A professional letter of recommendation from a teacher, community member, clergy member, employer etc., supporting you as a student, leader and/or your community service efforts.

How to submit

The application form, starting on page 3, is a word file. Fill it out completely, electronically, then “Save a Copy.” Note that the application requires a signature. You may provide an electronic signature, or print out the completed application, sign it and scan it as a pdf. The Application must be typed.

Completed application forms should be sent as a pdf file to [email protected] by March 16 no later than 12:00 noon. Please include your full name as part of the file name and in the email subject line. Example: Jane Doe Scholarship Awards Application

Submission of letters of recommendation should be sent as pdf files (with your full name as part of the file name) directly from the author to [email protected].

Alternatively, you can email the letter with the application package to [email protected]. The letter should indicate the capacity in which the letter writer knows you, e.g. as a student, club member, employee, or other.

Selection Process

1. Application including personal statement and letter of recommendation is reviewed confidentially by a screening committee.

2. Finalist are invited to an interview

3. Student of the Year and Awards recipients will be disclosed during the Award Ceremony on April 21 at the Shasta College Theater.
