II. Additions to/Adoption of Agenda

Motion to accept (M. Shevy, second L. Pagel). Adopted unanimously.

III. Approval of Draft Minutes of Tuesday 16 February 2010

Motion to accept (L. Pagel, second H. Wallace). Approved unanimously.

IV. Reports: A. Chair (Andy Poe): Chair Poe reminded everyone that Senate departmental elections are coming up. Departments need to make selections for representatives and forward their selections to him ([email protected]) and to also cc: Jeannie Wratschko ([email protected]). Also, the members of the Executive Committee will be up for election during the final Senate meeting.

B. Vice Chair (Helen Kahn): No report.

C. Secretary (David Boe): No report.

D. Provost (Susan Koch): The Provost informed everyone that the “Excellence in Service Awards” will be announced in a press release. The recipients are Andrew Smentkowski (Associate Director of Research/Sponsored Projects; Grants and Research) and Linda Hares (Administrative Assistant to the Provost).

E. ASNMU: Josh Corbat announced that ASNMU Elections will be held in early April.

F. AAPC Report 1 of Tuesday 9 March 2010 (FYI Report) Discussion: None.

G. AAPC Report 2 of Tuesday 9 March 2010 (First Reading) Motion to accept (L. Pagel, second H. Kahn) Discussion: None.

H. CEC Report of Tuesday 9 March 2010 (First Reading) Motion to accept (C. Leith, second M. Sklar). Discussion: None. There was a motion from the floor to suspend the rules and move to the second reading (R. Quinn, second P. Goodrich). The motion passed, and there was no further debate. Approved unanimously.

I. CUP Report of Tuesday 9 March 2010 (First Reading) The report posted earlier was not the final one, which is now available on-line. Motion to amend this report and replace it with the new one (C. Rayhorn, second L. Pagel). The motion passed, and there was no further discussion.

V. Unfinished Business

A. CUP Report of Tuesday 16 February 2010 (Second Reading)

Under item 3.a., Laura Reissner had amended the report to reflect a change to the bulletin description of NAS 207 in order to better differentiate the seasons. They will now be listed as NAS 207a – fall, NAS 207b – winter, NSA 207c – spring. Discussion: None. Approved unanimously. B. GPC Report of Tuesday 16 February 2010 (Second Reading)

Discussion: There was a minor correction made by the Executive Committee. Approved unanimously.

C. Winter 2010 Graduation List (Second Reading)

Discussion: None. Approved unanimously.

VIII. Good of the Order

Kim Martino reported that there is a Rotary Scholarship for $25,000 available for students for travel. Contact the ASNMU office for more information on how students can apply.

Ruth Watry announced that Gary Olson, the director of Michigan’s nonpartisan Senate Fiscal Agency, will share his perspectives on the state economy during a presentation to be held Friday, March 19, at 10:00 a.m. in the Reynolds Recital Hall, sponsored by the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. She encouraged all to attend.

Andy Poe announced that the Math and Computer Science Department will host the first ever U.P. High School Math Challenge this Saturday, March 13.

Ray Ventre reminded Senators that the 18th annual “Learning to Walk Together” Traditional Pow Wow will be held this Saturday, March 13, in the Vandament Arena. The Grand Entries will be at 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m.
