WHEREAS: SEA Consultants, Inc. have been located in Cambridge since 1985; and
WHEREAS: SEA has been involved in the Cambridge Community and contributed to organizations such as the YMCA, St. Paul AME Church, Central Square Business Association, CCTV, CRLS, Harvard, M.I.T., Police Officers Association Domestic Violence Group and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS: Being a good neighbor is important to SEA Consultants and is demonstrated in its corporate sponsorships and its staff of volunteers; now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That this City Council go on record extending its appreciation to SEA Consultants for being a good neighbor to the Cambridge Community; and be it further

WHEREAS: Theo Epstein, a young fantastic baseball mind, has been appointed the eleventh General Manager in Boston Red Sox history; and
WHEREAS: Theo was born in New York City and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS: Theo is a 1991 graduate of Brookline High School, a 1995 graduate of Yale University and a 2000 graduate of San Diego Law School; and
WHEREAS: Theo’s baseball career began in 1992 as an intern with the Baltimore Orioles; and
WHEREAS: This talented young man masterminded the fabulous tribute to the Negro Leagues at the 1993 All- Star Game which was held at Camden Yards in Baltimore; and
WHEREAS: In 1995 Theo ran the music, public-address and scoreboard systems for the San Diego Padres; and
WHEREAS: Theo joined the San Diego Padres baseball operations staff in 1997 and soon became its director of baseball operations; now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record congratulating Theo Epstein in being named General Manager of one of the most storied franchises in baseball history; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record wishing Theo Epstein great success as he enters his new career and hope he can bring a World Series Championship back the City of Boston; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of the resolution to Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein on behalf of the entire City Council.

WHEREAS: This City Council was deeply saddened at learning of the death of Ida Delle Sherwin on November 7, 2002; and
WHEREAS: After putting her career on hold to raise her daughters, Ida became involved in Temple Ashkenaz of Cambridge where she successfully pushed for women to be allowed to sit with men rather than being relegated to the balcony; and
WHEREAS: In the 1950s Ida co-produced a radio show that battled discrimination; and
WHEREAS: Ida earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Boston State College while she continued to teach at the Harrington School in East Cambridge; and
WHEREAS: Ida was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Herbert Sherwin; and
WHEREAS: Ida’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all her surviving family, her children Nancy E. Kaszynski and her husband Frank and Margaret (Didi) Weinblatt and her husband Alan; and her grandchild Sabre Kaszynski; and
WHEREAS: Ida will be sorely missed by all she touched and loved; now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That this City Council go on record extending its deepest sympathy to the family of Ida Delle Sherwin at this time of such personal loss; and be it further

WHEREAS: As we enter the December Holiday Season many members of the Cambridge Community seek opportunities to touch their neighbors in meaningful ways; and
WHEREAS: A group within the city is planning a special first time event. A first (and later annual) Christmas Party, which is a benefit for Cambridge children especially those who in this difficult economic time might not receive many of the gifts that they desire; and
WHEREAS: The Russell E. Hoyt Post #299 and members of the American Pool Association will host their inaugural Christmas Party on December 22, 2002 from 5-7 at 288B Green Street; now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the people of Cambridge are encouraged to seek opportunities to help one another during this holiday season and to attend the planned Christmas Party; now therefore be it further
RESOLVED: That the City Council congratulate the planners on their community spirit and their conviction that all Cambridge children deserve a gift filled holiday season and we wish the event to be a good success.

WHEREAS: Robert was a United States Army World War II veteran; and
WHEREAS: Robert was a member of the Mount Auburn Post #8818 V.F.W. and Tomas Cardinal O’Fiaich Division 14 A.O.H.; and
WHEREAS: Robert was a past President of the Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society; and
WHEREAS: Robert was the devoted brother of the late Doris Giarusso, Thelma McKeon, Mary Lou Doherty, and Paul McGaughey; and
WHEREAS: Robert’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all his surviving family, his wife Eileen (Downing) McGaughey; his children Robert and James McGaughey and Ann Marie Gregory; his daughters-in-law Irina and Deborah McGaughey; his son-in-law James Gregory; his grandchildren James and Jennifer Gregory and Tanya and Cassandra McGaughey; and his siblings J. WHEREAS: The Cambridge Police department is proud to announce its new class of incoming police officers; and
WHEREAS: The new officers have received the best police training at the Lowell Police Academy, where a Cambridge Police Sergeant is an instructor; and
WHEREAS: These individuals have gone through twenty-four weeks of intense physical and criminal justice training, and have now earned the right to be called Patrol Officers for the Cambridge Police Department; and
WHEREAS: The new police officers are as follows: Patrol Officer James F. Diggins Patrol Officer Beth J. Cahill Patrol Officer Alysha L. Collins Patrol Officer David P. Collins; now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record congratulating these men and women on graduating from the Lowell Police Academy and wish them good luck as the go out to protect and serve the City of Cambridge and its citizens; and be it further

WHEREAS: Judge Francis P. Cullen was the Presiding Justice of the Woburn District Court; and
WHEREAS: Judge Francis P. Cullen was the brother of the late Anthony “Joe” Jr., Lawrence and Mary Bruno; and
WHEREAS: Judge Francis P. Cullen’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all his surviving family, his wife, Dorothy (Maloney), his sons, Francis P. She has also established a Company specializing in group tours of Africa. Her African Adventures use as a base her sizable bed and breakfast villa located in a vibrant section of Acura; and
WHEREAS: If you took the seven communitarian African values of Kwanzaa and placed them in a vessel you would pour out Mercy Parkinson. She personifies the faith, unity, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity collective work and responsibility, which are the basis of Kwanzaa; and

WHEREAS: Charles is the Jesse Climenko Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and he is a renowned law professor and practitioner who began his legal practice as a public defender and has never abandoned the fight for justice for the underdog and outcast; and
WHEREAS: Charles has a nine-page resume of accomplishments of which most people would be very proud to be able to claim one or two; he is the co-author of the book Beyond the Rodney King Story: An Investigation of Police Conduct in Minority Communities, the author of chapters of several distinguished books including The Tireless Warrior for Racial Justice in Reason & Passion: Justice Brennan’s Enduring Influence and Blind Justice? Race, the Constitution, and the Justice System, in African Americans and the Living Constitution, as well as the author of innumerable articles in distinguished professional journals and law reviews; and
WHEREAS: Charles has been the moderator of many public television programs on an impressive variety of topics ranging from “Conference on Building Police-Community Relationships” to “Ethical Choices” and “Political Correctness and the Media;” his professional and civic activities include founding and directing Harvard’s Saturday School, co-chairing The Cambridge Public Schools Blue Ribbon Guidance Committee, several board memberships, including the boards of the Roxbury Multi-Service Center, Concerned Black Men of Cambridge, Freedom House, Inc., and the Southern Center for Human Rights Committee;
