The temperatures may still be cool, but spring is coming….and that means the Xi State Convention will be here soon! Many items have to do with deadlines for awards and recognitions so don’t delay!

State Projects Ticket Due March 15  Be sure your chapter completes and returns the Literacy Accountability Ticket to Mildred Welch ([email protected] or 259 N. Johnson Rd., Rogersville, TN 37857-4063.

Order of the Rose Nominations Due March 15  There’s still time to honor that hard-working sister in your chapter by nominating her for this award.  Nomination form is on the Xi State website and is also attached to this email.  Questions? Communications & Publicity Documents Due March 15  Chapter newsletters, media submissions, etc. must be received by March 15 to qualify for the 2014 Communications & Publicity Award.  Check http://www.xistate.org/forms.html for info re: the criteria for the award or to see who should receive your newsletters and other publicity materials.

Legislation Award Form Due March 15  The Legislative Committee wants to thank everyone who braved the weather to attend the Legislative Symposium in February.  Remember that the Legislation Award form should be sent to Karen Phillips ([email protected]) by March 15. Contact Karen for her address if you would prefer to send the form by snail mail.

Training Opportunity for Chapter Leaders  Chapter leaders: Please don’t enter your new position without taking advantage of state training!  I encourage your chapter to send a representative for each of these trainings: full-day trainings for chapter presidents and membership chairs as well as half-day trainings for program/Educational Excellence chairs, rules chairs, communications chairs (newsletter editors and webmasters), and treasurers. Chapter presidents are asked to bring a laptop, if possible, and chapter treasurers are asked to bring their treasurer’s notebook.  East TN in Knoxville (Mar. 29), Middle TN in Murfreesboro (Apr. 12), and West TN in Jackson (Apr. 26)  Registration form for the training is due by March 20 and is attached to this message and is also on the Xi State website.

Strategic Action Plans Due March 31  Submit chapter SAP electronically to Dee Dee Rives at [email protected] or mail plans to her at 934 Bear Creek Road, Pinson, TN 38366.

Xi State 2014 Achievement Award Due April 1  Xi State’s most prestigious award is based on the contributions of the recipient to DKG Society International with special consideration given to Xi State and the member’s chapter, as well as to education and to women.  Any member or chapter can nominate a deserving member. The nomination form can be downloaded from the Xi State website and is also attached to this message.  Submit form to Jessica Mitchell ([email protected]).

Chapter Rules Revisions/Updates  Is your chapter one of the 21 who have submitted your updated rules for review this year? Congratulations!  If not, and you need help in preparing your needed update/revision of chapter rules, plan to send a chapter representative to the half-day Rules session at the Chapter Officer Training Seminar scheduled in your area this spring.  Even if your review is not due until next year or the year after, don’t wait to get help. Come to the session with Dr. Jensi Souders, State Rules Committee Chair, and see how easy it is to be in compliance with the latest changes in the state organization and international governing documents.

Time to Brag!!  Celebrate all the wonderful things your chapter has done by submitting a Maycie Award for Chapter Excellence!  Activities should be reported for the time frame from April 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014.  Submit forms to Donna Campbell ([email protected]) by no later than April 15.  It’s also time to start planning your chapter’s display for the Xi State convention. Share your activities and pictures with others!

Silent Auction Items for Xi State Convention  Encourage members to start gathering items for baskets, individual items, or monetary donations. There is no “theme” this year.  If no chapter members are attending the Xi State convention, the chapter may still participate by sending a donation to Xi State treasurer, Nancy Davis.  Proceeds benefit Xi State Leadership Programs.  The chapter raising the most money will receive a trophy!

Looking for a Fun-Filled Weekend?  Save the dates (Sept. 19-20) for the Arts Retreat in the beautiful Sequatchie Valley in Dunlap, TN. Dine at The Cookie Jar; listen to music associated with the valley. AHHHH!  Registration form is available on the Xi State website.

Who Are Your New Chapter Officers?  Communication is key! That’s why it’s important that each chapter submite a Report of Chapter Officers Form for the 2014-2015 biennium.  Form is attached to the email and should be submitted to both International and Xi State.

Have You Earned Your Doctorate in the Past Two Years?  If so, you will be honored at the 2014 International Convention in Indianapolis this summber.  Contact me ([email protected]) to get information about the submssion process.

You Ought to be in Pictures!!  We would like to post pictures of chapter activities on the Xi State website. This is a huge undertaking, but Xi State webmaster Dianne Anderson is onboard to make this work.  To help with this task, there are some guidelines that MUST be followed when you submit pictures: o Pictures must be emailed to Dianne in jpg format at [email protected]. o No more than 5 pictures of any one activity should be submitted. Please do not submit more than 5 and request that Dianne choose the ones she wants to use! o The captions should include only the chapter name and a brief title for the activity, i.e. Alpha Xi Officer Installation. o Be sure that you have received permission from your members to have their photos posted before you submit the photos.
