Sports Trial Information

Australian Rules Football

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so through the Darling Downs regional trials.

Age divisions are:

• 12 Years and under.

• 15 years and under [boys].

• 16 years and under [girls].

Baseball

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so through the Darling Downs regional trials. Note that nominations are school based, either individual or team.

Age divisions are:

• 14 years and under.

• 18 Years and under.

Basketball

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so by participating in the South West School Sport regional trials and so gain selection to attend the Darling Downs regional trial.

Age divisions are:

• 19 years and under boys.

• 19 years and under girls.

• 15 years and under girls

• 12 years and under girls. Cricket

South West holds a regional trials and sends a team to the state championships in the 12 years boys and girls divisions only. All other divisions participate through Darling Downs.

Age groups for this sport are:

• 14/15 years and under boys.

Cross Country

South West School Sport holds a 10 - 19 years regional trial in this sport. Nominations may come from either a district or an individual school [where no district trial is held].

Nominations for the regional trial may only be made by using either Meet Manager or Team Manager Lite programs.

• To use Meet Manager - download the meet backup file emailed to district secretaries and sport coordinators and install on your Meet Manager program. The Meet Manager program must be purchased from Hy-Tek.

• To use Team Manager Lite - download the meet events list emailed to district secretaries and sport coordinators and save to your computer. Follow the directions in the attached 'Team Manager Lite User Guide' to install and run Team Manager Lite. TM Lite is available as a free download from Hy-Tek.

Individual South West students wishing to be considered for selection to participate in the Darling Downs School Sport trials.

Age divisions are:

• 13 - 19 years boys.

• 13 - 19 years girls.

• 11 - 12 years boys. • 11 - 12 years girls.

Football

Regional trials are held in each age division. Students in the 15 and 19 years divisions participate in the Darling Downs School Sport trials to seek selection in their team to attend the Queensland School Sport state championship; Students in the 12 years division participate in the Queensland School Sport championship.

Age groups are:

• 19 years and under boys

Netball

The regional trials for Netball will be school team nominations. In the 19 years age group school teams will compete for the Vicki Wilson Cup. School teams may need to combine in each of the age groups to ensure that all students from a centre are able to participate in the regional trials.

Age divisions are:

• 19 years and under

Orienteering

Students from South West School Sport region participate in the Darling Downs trials for this sport. Age divisions are:

• 12 - 13 years boys and girls

• 14 years boys and girls

Rugby League

The regional trials for Rugby League will be school team nominations. In the 19 years age group school teams will compete for the GIO Cup. In the 10 – 12 years age group teams will compete for the Development Cup. School teams may need to combine in each of the age groups to ensure that all students from a centre are able to participate in the regional trials.

Age groups are:

• 18 years and under - i.e. 16, 17 or 18 year old boys.

• 15 years and under - i.e. 14 or 15 year old boys.

• 12 years and under - i.e. 10, 11, 12 year olds.

Rugby Union

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so through the Darling Downs School Sport regional trials. Age divisions are:

Softball

South West conducts a regional trial and sends a team to the state championship in the 12 years girls division only. All other age groups participate through Darling Downs.

Age divisions are: • 18 years and under girls

Squash

South West selects a team that participates in the Darling Downs School Sport trials for selection to participate at the Queensland School Sport state championships.

Age groups are:

Swimming

South West holds a 10 - 19 years regional trial in this sport. Nominations may come from either a district or an individual school [where no district trial is held].

Track and Field

South West holds a 10 - 19 years regional trial in this sport. Nominations may come from either a district or an individual school [where no district trial is held].

Triathlon

South West students participating in this sport do so through the Darling Downs School Sport region. For both age divisions students must participate in the Darling Downs regional trial.

Age divisions are:

• 13 - 19 Years boys and girls Triathlon

• 11 - 12 years boys and girls Aquathlon

As the QSS state championship for this sport is held early in term 1 each year, nominations close in October/November of the previous year.

Volleyball

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so through the Darling Downs regional trials. Nominations to the Darling Downs School Sport are school based, either individual or team.

Age divisions are:

• 15 years and under boys and girls.

• 19 years and under boys and girls.

Water Polo

Students wishing to participate in this sport do so through the Darling Downs regional trials. Nominations to the Darling Downs School Sport are school based, either individual or team.

Age divisions are:

17 years and under boys and girls.
