3 Public Forum, Funding Applications. Ruskin Road play equipment

Presentation by Poppy Farenden, Stuart Lea, Connor Knight.

We are here today to speak on behalf of the residents of West Stanford to express concerns about the un-notified removal of Ruskin Road Park log world on Thursday 21st October, which was situated in West Stanford.

So far we have collected nearly 500 signatures from the local residents; we have contacted Thurrock Council and have had several meetings about our concerns.

Ruskin Road Park log world was kept in an immaculate condition as it was overlooked by the local residents. Talking to the local people we had an overall image that the park was safe and friendly. Many of the parents/guardians expressed their concerns that they would not like their children to travel to the next nearest Park, (which is Hardie Park). Their reasons for this being it are too far for young people to get to, and many of the parents do not have an access to transport.

We would like there to be:-

Some appropriate seating, bins, play equipment and perhaps a shelter.

With your support we can achieve our goals to regain our play resources. This can be achieved by applying for external funding from businesses i.e. lottery, local businesses. We need you as the Stanford Forum to apply for this external funding to replace our loss; we do not want to go to East Stanford, Thank you for your support Stanford Forum. Terry Piccolo. North East cluster was meeting today; Paul Griffiths, headmaster of St Clere’s, and Sylvia Yates attended. Sylvia was impressed with the press coverage, and was happy with your response.

Three funding streams could be available to forums:-

Play equipment should be metal, not wood or plastic, would cost approx £50,000. Forum members who have lived in the area for many years played there, as children and support you on this.

Andrea stated that metal was badly corroded, and unsafe; steel pipe most of it rusted away was shown to the forum if people use equipment that was damaged and hurt themselves they could possibly claim damages.

Terry asked if the Forum was happy to apply for funding. (Members all agreed that funding should be applied for)

Need to get a source of income, see Terry & Sylvia for other grants that can be applied for. Andrea, TTGDC, grants may be available, up to £10,000. Local businesses may respond better when a group of youth write to them. They may have more success than the Forum! Terry, advertising plaque on equipment,

Keep car and house keys out of sight, intruders are increasingly likely to steal vehicles as well as valuable items. Don’t leave them on a table or bowl near the door, or on a hook in the kitchen.
