LANIEL CHAPMAN, FORMER 15 CHAIRMAN OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF 16 TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND TO ERECT 17 APPROPRIATE SIGNS OR MARKERS TO REFLECT THIS 18 DESIGNATION. 19 20 Whereas, the Honorable V. Laniel Chapman was born in 21 Greenville County, the son of the late Vester and Ruth Chapman, 22 and is a lifelong resident of the Town of Belton; and 23 24 Whereas, he is married to the former Vivian Ballenger, and 25 together they are the proud parents of two daughters; and 26 27 Whereas, he is a senior partner in the Chapman, Byrholdt and Yon 28 Law Firm located in the City of Anderson; and 29 30 Whereas, he served as Solicitor for the Tenth Judicial Circuit from 31 1972 to 1977; and 32 33 Whereas, from 1990 through March 1994, Mr. Chapman served as 34 a commissioner with the South Carolina Department of 35 Transportation and as Chairman of the Commission from April 36 1993, through March 1994; and 37 38 Whereas, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from 39 Carson-Newman College in 1957, and his Juris Doctorate degree 40 from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1961; and 41
1 [3675] 1 1 Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the South 2 Carolina General Assembly to recognize this great South 3 Carolinian by naming the South Carolina Highway 247 bridge that 4 crosses the Saluda River in Anderson County in his honor. Now, 5 therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 8 concurring: 9 10 That the General Assembly, by this resolution, requests the 11 Department of Transportation to name the South Carolina 12 Highway 247 bridge that crosses the Saluda River in Anderson 13 County the “V. Laniel Chapman Bridge”, and erect appropriate 14 markers or signs to reflect this designation. 15 16 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 17 the Department of Transportation. 18 ----XX----
