Humble Independent School District Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees HUMBLE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES The Humble Board of Trustees held the regular meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room, 20200 Eastway Village Drive, Humble, Texas. COMMENDATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS Inspiring Moments - presented by: Public Information Department. The Inspiring Moment featured the Humble ISD 2016-17 Elementary Teacher of the Year and the Secondary and District Teacher of the year which were announced at the Gala on April 1st. Stellar Standouts – March, 2016 AMS Theatre students won 1st place in the UIL One-Act Play Competition AMS Honors and Concert bands earned straight Superior ratings in the UIL Band Competition AMS student Sophia Isbell’s artwork titled "Sunset" was chosen as the People's Choice Award at the Bayou City Middle School Art Competition! HMS recently became just the 3rd school in the Greater Houston area, and 28th in the state, to meet the AVID National Demonstration School standards. KMS 7th grader Anika Busra won 1st place in Texas in the International Aviation Art– middle school category. RMS student Julia Wiecek earned a Gold Key award in the national Scholastic Art & Writing Contest for her artwork titled “Dreaming of Tomorrow” TMS student Kimberly Bae won first place in the Humble ISD Spelling Bee AHS Girls Soccer won 3rd in district and advanced to the playoffs Boys Varsity Basketball advanced to the State Finals in San Antonio and came away with a Silver medal and title of State Semi-Finalist. The Boys and Girls Varsity Gymnastics Teams ended their regular season at the Panther Invitational held at Ozen High School in Beaumont and took 1st place honors. AHS Tennis at the College Park Tournament: Carson Kirk is Freshman Boys Champion and Zoi Corley is Freshman Girls B Runner up AHS Golfer Hayley Zorkic selected to All-District team AHS hosted the District 16-6A UIL Drama Competition. AHS advanced from District for the 2nd year in a row AHS individual UIL Drama Awards: Alaya Gallegos was named BEST ACTRESS for all of District 16-6A Karen Grentz received All-Star Cast Austin Brady and Anna Flynn received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast Areli Navarro received Top Technician AHS One Act Play ADVANCED to the Area contest for the first time since 2012! AHS One Act Play Individual Awards: Austin Brady & Alaya Gallegos received All-Star Cast. Anna Flynn & Karen Grentz received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast Johnny Painter received Top Technician AHS JROTC student Brianna Hawkinson won Longest Flex Arm Hang at the Tomball Memorial High School Drill Meet AHS JROTC team awards from the Tomball Memorial High School Drill Meet include: First in Armed Regulation Drill First in Armed Drill Team Inspection First in Unarmed Drill Team Inspection First in Female Color Guard Inspection AHS student Kurt Arzaga earned Gold Key award in the national Scholastic Art & Writing contest for his artwork titled “Happiness” AHS Senior Kaitlyn Smith was selected as a KPRC2 Senior Scholarship winner KHS Journalism students attended a sports writing seminar hosted by the US basketball writers association at the Final Four Tournament. KPHS students received Gold Key awards in the national Scholastic Art & Writing contest: Bri Crockett for her artwork titled “Found ‘em” Madison Keller for her artwork titled “Innocence” Rachael Scott for her artwork titled “Delicious Mess” QECHS was selected as an Early College High School Demonstration Site by the Texas Education Agency. QECHS will receive a $28,000 in grant funds from the ESC- Region 13. Humble ISD Super Staffers The following Super Staffers received a sponsored prize of a $200 gift card to Pappas Restaurant. The Trustees also thanked the speakers who came forward with their concerns this evening. COMMENTS BY THE SUPERINTENDENT No report. ACTION ITEMS FROM CLOSED SESSION PERSONNEL A motion was made by Mr. Rushing that the Board of Trustees approve the Administration’s Personnel recommendation as presented with an addendum. Humble ISD is relocating graduations from NRG Stadium, where the district originally intended to hold all of the high school graduations on May 29 except for Quest, after determining that NRG Stadium is no longer a viable option this school year. Turner Stadium is close to home. Parking is free. Students have high school memories associated with Turner Stadium. The main advantage of NRG -- an unlimited number of guests per graduate -- was not applicable this school year.
