ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN MAINLAND CHINA 22 July 2004 6:00 to 7:00 pm Venue: Seminar Room, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers 9/F, Island Beverley, Causeway, Hong Kong (Joint function with the Environmental Division, HKIE)

Speakers Ms Cathy JIANG Kai

Synopsis

While China gradually opens up its market through the accession to World Trade Organization ("WTO") and the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement ("CEPA"), there have been many changes made to its set-up and tax systems in order to meet the WTO and CEPA requirements. This poses a challenge for companies that have already entered or are planning to enter the market in China.

To obtain a clearer view with respect to developing an environmental business in China, it is important to first understand the general background in the business and regulatory requirements in China. In this seminar, the speaker will first focus on the business arrangements in China under the current tax and regulatory framework in order to offer the audience practical guidelines and insider's view to the fundamental business operations and taxation issues. She will also focus on market entry options and the different investment vehicles available for business set-up in China. In addition, she will introduce the industry-specific factors in addressing the above issues in accordance with the situation in the environmental industry in Mainland.

This is a timely seminar on this topic upon the signing of the Pan Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation and Development by the nine provinces of Mainland together with Hong Kong and Macau SARs in the recent “9+2” Forum.

Speaker Ms Cathy Kai Jiang, Senior Manager - Tax Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The participants will be issued an attendance certificate for application for CPD days. ******************************************************************************** To sign-up, please contact: Ms Fion CHUI Tel: 2872 1740, Fax: 2872 0389 or E-mail: [email protected]
