AGH Summer Golf Classic climbs above $106,000

Patients and residents at the Almonte General Hospital/Fairview Manor (AGH/FVM) are the winners after the AGH/FVM Foundation raised $106,195 for patient care equipment through its annual golf tournament.

The 10th Annual Almonte General Hospital Summer Golf Classic was held Friday, June 22 at the picturesque Canadian Golf and Country Club.

“We can’t thank our sponsors, auction donors, golfers and army of volunteers enough for coming out and supporting the Hospital and the Foundation,” said AGH/FVM Foundation Executive Director Gerry Huddleston. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Calling the tournament a “great day”, Golf Committee Chair Guido Patrice was pleased all the money raised will go towards the purchase of equipment such as:

 Wireless Surgical Monitor for the Operating Room - $18,000  Isolette – a self-contained incubator for newborn babies - $17,800  Portable Telemetry to monitor unborn baby’s heartbeat/mom in labour - $5,000  Carescape Vital Signs Monitor monitors mom/baby before during and after delivery - $8,000  Inferential Therapy Unit used to decrease pain and swelling and aid in healing – Physiotherapy - $5,000  Continuous Wave probe for Ultrasound (new service at AGH) $10,000  Maxi 500 Arjo lift for Fairview Manor - $10,800  A medication cart for the Rosamond Wing - $7,000.

Mr. Huddleston said the tournament’s success wouldn’t be possible without the help of “our fantastic sponsors”, including:

Platinum – Canadian Gazette/EMC/Metroland Media

Gold - Almonte Lions Club – Levi Home Hardware Building Centre – Tubman Funeral Home and Cremation – Rexall/Pharma Plus – Interspec Furniture

Silver – Royal Bank of Canada – Dr. Naji Louis – Imperial Electric Lunch Sponsor – Kelly Huibers McNeely

Bronze – IP Strategies – Ottawa Brass Limited – Almonte Grocery and Gas – Crain and Schooley Insurance Brokers Ltd. – Cavanagh Williams - Direct Energy Essential Home Services - S&R Mechanical – Patrice’s Independent Grocer – Almonte Family Health Organization.

The Foundation would like to acknowledge Eldon Munro Construction and Almonte Veterinary Services and the 76 other cash sponsors.

Tournament Founder Don Stewart and his organizing golf friend Bert McIntyre were given a standing ovation when they were presented with congratulatory plaques for their 10 years of dedication. More than $500,000 has been raised for the Hospital and Manor in 10 years.

Presentations were also made to Almonte Lions Club President Adrian Ayotte, Bruno Carchidi of Tubman Funeral Homes, Jayne Webber of Interspec Furniture and Rodney Groulx and Blair Olson of The Almonte Sign Company. Other top sponsors were not in attendance.

Massage therapy provided by Melissa Webb and her colleagues from Absolute Massage Therapy was one of the many highlights of the golfing day. The region’s top auctioneer, and a real friend of the Hospital and Foundation, John O’Neill did an amazing job with the auction as $14,225 was raised with the live and silent auctions.

Participants opened their wallets, purses and hearts to both the live and silent auction. This year more than $26,000 worth of merchandise was donated by area businesses. A car donated by Carleton Ford’s Mike and Glenda Pitre and $10,000 donated by RBC’s Cindy Hobbs went unclaimed in the hole-in-one competitions. Carleton Ford and RBC sponsored hole-in-one competitions on eight holes.

The team of Brent Munro, Ted Mepham, Darren Green and Jamie Bertrand won the tournament with a score of 10 under. Liz Taylor, Colin Monette and Mark Seabrook won the mixed team prize while John and Ruth Steele and Sid and Lillian Mohr won for being most honest.

Organizers have already begun planning for next year’s tournament.
