World History 105D Midterm 2 Study Guide Sadowski

There will by 30 multiple choice questions worth two (2) points each for a total of sixty (60) points. You will write on four (4) out of six (6) possible identification questions (i.e. short answer) worth five (5) points each for a total of 20 points. You will write on one (1) essay question out of three (3) possible, for a total of 20 points. The entire exam is worth 100 points.

Points will be earned for accurate factual answers that show your in-depth knowledge of the topic. Generalizations, while often accurate, are inadequate. Facts must be presented in your answers to show you have more than a surface knowledge of the material.

VERY IMPORTANT ----- Handwriting must be legible.

1. What factors led to the decline and eventual collapse of the Islamic states? Did they have any problems in common that would help explain their fall? 2. Examine the European witch-hunts of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. What factors led to this movement? What were the results? 3. Examine the reign of Akbar. What sets his reign apart from other rulers of his age, both Islamic and non-Islamic? Did he go too far and too fast? 4. Examine the leading thinkers of the scientific revolution. Why were the early discoveries of the scientific revolution met with such resistance? In what ways did these discoveries destroy an old worldview and create a new one? How did their ideas influence the Enlightenment? 5. Was there a political side to the sixteenth-century reformation movements? How did it relate to the religious issues?
