Citizens on Patrol Volunteer Program

The City of Coalinga Police Department is currently seeking highly motivated individuals to join the elite Citizens on Patrol Program.

Basic Function: Individuals who are qualified and selected will have the opportunity to join a special team of citizen volunteers who will assist in a variety of meaningful ways while patrolling the streets in specially marked patrol vehicles, in uniform as non-sworn community volunteers.

Representative Duties:  Patrol an assigned area

 Assist in the direction of traffic at crash scenes

 Assist disabled motorists

 Assist in the completion of department related forms/reports

 Check abandoned vehicles

 Perform area checks

 Perform citizen welfare checks

 Watch for disturbances and suspicious activities

Knowledge, Knowledge of: Effective communication techniques; community resources; Skills and map reading and comprehension. Abilities: Skill and Ability to: Work with minimal supervision; operate radio and equipment; Analyze situations accurately and make quick decisions during emergencies; remember details, and think clearly; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; speak and enunciate clearly; possess competent written/verbal English skills; listen and articulate radio transmissions. Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must possess a valid California State Drivers License, Class C with a clean DMV record and must be insurable under the City’s insurance policy without the City incurring any additional premiums or costs.

The selected applicant(s) will be required to undergo and pass a background 13-2

check and a drug test.

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.
