Woodlin Elementary School 2101 Luzerne Avenue Silver Spring, Maryland 20910 301-240-740-2820 Craig Jackson, Principal Cassandra Scott, Assistant Principal September 28, 2017 Dear Parents and Guardians,
Red Ribbon Month is celebrated in schools across the country, during the month of October, to emphasize the importance of maintaining a drug-free and healthy lifestyle. During the month of October, I will be presenting classroom guidance lessons that relate to Red Ribbon Week. In Grades K-2, the lessons will promote the development of healthy personal habits. In Grades 3-5 the lessons will help students recognize measures they can take to be safe while using the internet. Red Ribbon Month will culminate with a Red Ribbon themed spirit week the last full week in October where students will have the opportunity to display their commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle. Below are the Red Ribbon spirit week activities scheduled to take place the last week in October:
Date: Spirit Week Activity: Monday October 23, 2017 Students and staff are encouraged to wear red to school in recognition of red ribbon week. Tuesday October 24, 2017 Students and staff are encouraged to wear their craziest socks to school as we sock it to an unhealthy lifestyle. Wednesday October 25, 2017 Students are encouraged to wear their brightest and craziest outfits as they demonstrate that Woodlin students are too bright to make unhealthy choices.
Thursday October 26, 2017 Students and staff are encouraged to don their favorite team’s apparel as we team up against making bad choices. Friday October 27, 2017 Students can wear jeans and proudly display Woodlin’s school colors (blue and white) as they demonstrate that Woodlin students are “jean-iuses” and will commit to making healthy choices throughout their lives.
I am looking forward to a great Red Ribbon Month at Woodlin Elementary School! Warm regards,
