BENTLEY - 4257cc ~ 1949 LLG195 is the second (see lot 61) that the late Mr Wells started to make into a special in the 1990's. All the hard work has been done ie moving the engine back 18 inches, shortening the propshaft and making a new bulkhead, the aluminium special body is all there bar a few little bits which need finishing. She has the original buff logbook, engine and chassis numbers match. We are told that the engine is free. Comes with loads of spares, outside handbrake, replacement tyres etc. There are loads of technical and written drawings showing the work which has been completed and a list of things to do. Please note the headlights are missing. Unfortunately Chas became too frail to finish the before he passed away in 2007 at the age of 93. The car has resided in a garage in the ownership of his wife until now. Sold as a non runner.

ROVER 820 SI AUTO - 1998cc ~ 1999 Mileage: 57,000 miles Warranted MOT: 07/03/2018 The Rover 800 replaced the SD1 in 1986 and continued until it was replaced by the in 1998. The two ran concurrently for a short period of time and the Rover 820si here is one of those very late models. Already an unusual sight on the roads these days and a great way into classic motoring, these cars are very much underappreciated. Sharing the same floorpan and many other components from the Legend and fitted with a spritely 2.0 litre engine with automatic box this example has covered a mere 57,000 miles from new and comes with full service history. Overall this example is in excellent all round condition with a very clean interior indeed, bright alloy wheels and nice bright red paintwork. The 'Si' was a higher specification model just beneath the top of the range and larger engined Sterling. This example runs and drives very well according to the owner and is very well equipped. Being sold without reserve and complete with a recent MOT and ready to go, this car represents very good value for money for the aspiring classic enthusiast or cheap everyday motoring for someone looking for some reliable and comfortable motoring.

Auctioneers notes: A great starter classic.

Included in the history file is a Haines manual, the last MOT which expired on 29/06/2015, old MOTs from 1996 - 2005 plus a few more recent ones, lots of invoices, a bookback containing handbooks and a service book containing 16 stamps. ROVER SUFFIX A - 2495cc ~ 1972 Mileage: 205,621 miles Not Warranted The original Range Rover was released in June 1970 and was an instant success, with demand far outstripping the 100 cars per week Rover could supply… with even the Queen wanting one! Early models are now known by their chassis suffix, with the earliest being the Suffix A (1970-72), and these models are now the most sought after and probably the rarest. This example was registered on 16th November 1972 and has had a few modifications over the years; it is now fitted with a Discovery 200 TDI engine and gearbox. Fortunately, the original 3.5 V8 engines are still relatively plentiful and thus returning it to original spec would be a possibility should you want to. Like this example, many of the early Range Rovers were converted to run on diesel as the running costs of the V8 were often unattractive to second hand buyers. Early examples also quite often suffered the indignity of the angle grinder and were 'bob-tailed' for trial events use and lost forever. In the last 5 years, early Range Rovers have become very sought after with prices soaring; even Jaguar (Range Rover owners) are buying tatty early 2 door examples, restoring them and selling them on… at a starting price of £135,000! And you certainly wouldn't get a Suffix A for that starting price. This Range Rover runs and drives well in the owner's opinion and the bodywork is surprisingly straight, the replacement panels all came from the same donor vehicle (the white panels) with the plan to re-spray the car its original grey colour in the future. EMR786L was on the road until November 2016 when the MOT ran out, the car is however still currently taxed until October 2017, and is of course tax exempt. The owner didn't attempt to renew the MOT the car and has now decided that it was time to move it on. Over the years, bits and pieces have been swapped from later models, the tailgate (that always rot out) has been replaced with a later one, as has the bonnet and grille. All early Range Rover parts are interchangeable as very little changed in the first 15 or so years of production. The boot of EMR786L is full of parts; carpets, door seals, grille and various other bits and pieces. The Range Rover sits on four nearly new Bridgestone tyres This Suffix A could either be used 'as is' or restored back into original condition. Whatever the new owner decides he or she will still have a piece of automotive history; the only vehicle ever to have been displayed in Musee du Louvre in Paris as an 'exemplary work of industrial design'. With prices continuing to rise, this vehicle represents a fantastic opportunity for pleasure and for investment. EMR786L is being sold with many spares, great potential and WITHOUT RESERVE!

AUSTIN METRO V/PLAS - 1275cc ~ 1985 Mileage: 62,025 miles Warranted MOT: 10/02/2018 This was part of the Stondon Museum collection, and so was in nice condition when then vendor acquired it. (V5 still shows Stondon as last keeper). The vendor has since gone right through it, removing the engine, stripping the suspension and brakes, and paying particular attention to the bodywork to return it to a near new condition. The engine has been given a new clutch, hoses, belt etc and has been sympathetically modified with some work and the addition of twin 1 1/2" SU carbs. (The engine in standard form is the MG Metro 1275 big valve version). The car drives very nicely and the extra power makes for easy modern style driving. A bit of a "wolf in sheep's clothing". There is a full service history, and together with the Stondon provenance will warrant the mileage of 62000. Comes with a fresh MOT with no advisories. Good history file with photographs of the recent work carried out. One of only 24 remaining on the road and probably the best. LEYLAND CARS MINI 1000 - 998cc ~ 1970 Mileage: 999 miles Not Warranted MOT: 11/08/2017 A super little mini in the classic colour combination of red with a black roof and black interior. The bodywork is in good condition having had a rebuild into a later shell by a previous owner. It has been upgraded in many ways to resemble a Mk3 cooper S, and benefits from servo assisted cooper S front discs with spaced rear drums, 10" minilight alloys, group 2 arches, dummy RH fuel filler, and cooper S boot badge. It drives very well, and thanks to an engine upgrade to 1275cc it goes as well as it looks. The interior is nicely finished, with a sports steering wheel and three clock centre dash. The only advisories on the current MOT were fuel cap seal and worn tyres, which have since been replaced with new Yokohamas.

Lot 33

AUSTIN 6 CWT VAN - 1098cc ~ 1970 Mileage: 69,887 miles Not Warranted This charming van has covered less than 700 miles since last MOTd in 2015, when it had just two advisories (top swivel joint wear, front wheel bearing play). It starts and runs well with good oil pressure. It drives quite well, and the brakes do work but after a period standing should have a full check over. Unusually it retains the correct van wheels, but does sport Morris hubcaps! According to 'how many left' there are fewer than 300 of these rare Austin vans either taxed or on sorn, so this should be an interesting and potentially rewarding restoration project.

It was owned by a father and son for 23 years, with a detailed handwritten log of it's history, and window stickers show the many club events attended. Apparently Anne had eight of these, and when new they were a lot more expensive than an MGC GT!

KJ11 - KJ14 going to Eynsford, Wilmington, Swanley and Stone respectively. The 30 CWT, twin rear wheel, 10ft-2in wheelbased chassis Z7151 was built in 1928 and fitted with a four cylinder 17.9HP petrol engine at approx 12 MPG. KJ14 stayed at Stone until the outbreak of WW2 when it transferred to the newly formed National Fire Service and spent the war around the Horton Kirby area. It was then transferred to the Kent Fire Brigade in 1948 when the NFS was disbanded. In around 1948 KJ14 was passed to the KFB Workshops at Lyminge where the pump was removed and a 9KVA generator was fitted. It stayed in service as a mobile power unit until 1960 when it was transferred to the Kent Highways Department at Aylesford and then to Canterbury Department. It was finally sold to a farmer on Romney Marsh. KJ14 stayed on the farm until 1970 by which time she was minus most of the body work, brass radiator, 40 gallon bronze water tank and her pressure gauges but was purchased in this state by a Sussex garage owner and historic commercial vehicle enthusiast who rebuilt the engine and chassis and used her as a stand-by power unit in the garage. The vehicle was then purchased by a Mr Bromley in 1980 who spent 2 years restoring her as a mobile power unit, rallied her for one season then being offered assistance from a KFB vintage enthusiast, plus the offer of a fire pump, not a Gwyne but a very similar Dennis, he started the task of rebuilding KJ14 as a fire appliance, re appearing at the 1985 Kent Show, followed in May 1986 with a complete London to Brighton HCVS run. KJ14 then passed through auction in 2002 onto Landspeed Motors Ipswitch. In 2002 the vehicle was badly damaged by a fire (image in folder) and was subsequently declared insurance loss category F. The damaged vehicle was purchased by Mr Tucker who set about sourcing original parts and rebuilding it to get it back on the road. Stacks of bills, invoices and correspondence follow on from this over the next 10 or so years until it was put back on the road in 2011. The history file includes lots of letters from previous owners and correspondence, bills and invoices for parts in relation to the restoration of the vehicle. This vehicle also featured in the book "Bertram Mills - The Circus that Travelled by Train". 637 CLP was then sold at auction in 1966 to The Trading Post Ltd of London, a film props hire company. The Austin then passed through two further ownerships before being purchased as an unfinished project in 2007. Now still with only 97558 showing, has only covered a further 28,000 miles in 37 years. Along with the old mots there is a file full of invoices showing over 10,000 pounds has been spent getting this car right in the last 10 years. Below is a summary of this work. In 2007 the car was recommissioned after being in storage for 10 years. Had new cylinder head, new fuel lines, carb reconditioned, new points, plugs and condenser. New brake pipes. New front brake Callipers, n/s rear wheel bearing. Overhaul rear brake callipers. New coil, Fuel filter, water pump new hoses, Fuel filter, Viscous fan. Manual choke fitted in 2011. The fuel gauges have stopped working recently, everything else works as it should. The vendor does say that although bright, shiny and straight there are areas of the paintwork that could be improved, plus a couple of the rear side window seals have failed and need replacing, if you want to make it a show car? If not then leave it as is and you will have a very nice driving, good looking car. With a current MOT through to January next year, this rare and very sought after “Big Coupe” is ready to go.

Auctioneers notes: This coupe is sold without reserve. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the paintwork has a poor finish. Having said that she is a very usable rare coupe.

AUSTIN A35 - 948cc ~ 1958 Mileage: 393 miles Not Warranted UAB101 is the 75th pick-up produced out of a total of just 475. Originally intended as a small utility vehicle for local tradesmen the A35 pick-up went into production in late 1956 but was halted within a few months due to issues with purchase tax. Commercial vehicles were at that time exempt from purchase tax whereas standard road cars were not. The A35 pick-up had a tiny load capacity and no tailgate along with seats fitted in the rear tub (that fold away), and as a result the tax authorities decided that this made it more of a recreational rather than work vehicle and applied the purchase tax thus making the car very expensive to buy in the UK. As a result and with very few sold production was halted and all unsold models were shipped abroad (mostly Australia and New Zealand), roughly half of these little pick-ups ended up overseas. UAB101 is an original British example and was sold new in and registered on 1st January 1958. In 2001 this car underwent a full and very expensive professional photographic restoration with Heritage Classics in Middlesbrough. A total exceeding £25,000 was spent restoring the car and it is now one of the finest, if not the finest example to be found anywhere. Underneath the car is in beautiful show condition, up until 2016 the car formed part of an important private collection and covered less than 100 miles on its rebuilt engine in 14 years. In 2016 the car was briefly used to promote a national online business but only covered a few (perhaps 100) road miles during that time as it was used mostly for photo purposes. The car does drive very nicely indeed though and the little 948cc engine purrs as well as it did when it was new. UAB101 also featured in an ITV documentary about commercial vehicles that was produced by Yorkshire television and a newspaper cutting of this event is included in the comprehensive history file along with the original green logbook and piles of invoices and photos from Heritage Classics. The car is both MOT and tax exempt due to its age. No one knows for sure exactly how many of these quirky pick-ups remain; at the annual and A35 owners club show they might expect 5 or 6 to show up on a good year. They are the enigma of the Austin world and for this reason they are greatly converted. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to own an original British A35 Pick-up that could be shown to win prizes or driven and just enjoyed. UAB101 draws a massive amount of attention wherever it goes and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.

MORRIS MINI COOPER 1275 S ~ 1965 Mileage: 48,250 miles Not Warranted MOT: 16/03/2018 This LHD Morris Mini Cooper 1275 S has benefitting from a recent ground up restoration to concours quality in the correct early type, (lighter shade RD9), Tartan red with black roof. The car was exported to Portugal on 3rd July 1965 as a CKD and is an original LHD car. It was registered to its first owner on 10th November 1965 and has remained in the country until now.It was found many years ago as an abandoned project and the previous owner started restoration work in spring 2013 with every component being refurbished, renewed or replaced. All the bodyshell details were revised and rectified, using new panels where needed from M-Machine (UK) and Mini Spares (UK). Front and rear subframes were sandblasted and repainted. For reliability reasons “dry” (rubber cone) suspension was used along with an adjustable HILO suspension kit from Mini Spares. The engine was completely dismantled, inspected and rebuilt using new parts only when the originals were not suitable to re use. The first step was to make the revision of the AEG312 “S” short block. Therefore, after verifying the good status of the crankshaft, pistons and con rods, it was fitted with new parts such as pistons rings, bearings, seals, oil and water pumps. A duplex vernier timing gear and chain set was fitted, along with a new camshaft kit. The original AEG163 head was beyond repair so a replacement Stage 3 head was sourced from Minisport. The gearbox received the same attention as the engine benefitting from a total strip and inspection before rebuild using new baulk rings. A complete and new wiring loom was installed along with all new electronic components throughout the car for safety and reliability reasons.

The entire interior was re trimmed in the correct Newton Commercial, (UK), red and gold brocade with new seat covers, door cards, carpet, headlining and boot board. The car is fitted with very rare original 3.5” Cooper S wheels, (including spare), all running on and has a fresh MOT with no advisories. Other than it's document file the car comes with a Photobook of the restoration, it's LHD headlights and original Portuguese number plates.

BENTLEY MK6 "SPECIAL" - 4256cc ~ 1948 Mileage: 30,000 miles Not Warranted Bentley MK6 "259HTR" was modified from a 4 door saloon to a 2 seater sports special in the early 80's by Chas Wells who was a well respected motor engineer from the early 1930's. He lived near Romsey and owned a garage there called The Plaza Garage where he repaired cars for many of the locals including working on the Mountbatten cars of Broadlands. He retired in 1960 at the age of 47 and spent the rest of his life working on classic cars. Chas purchased Bentley 259HTR (in chassis form) in the 1980's from Sydney Augustus Martin (Skid Martin) an old friend of Chas's who used to race together at Brooklyns in the 30's. Skid Martin was going to modify 259HTR but decided to buy Bentley HUK21 that was already completed. Chas then set about modifying the chassis by moving the engine back 18 inches, shortening the prop shaft and lowering the radiator, building the body panels out of sheet aluminium and lowering the suspension. Skid Martin would come over in his Bentley (HUK21) on a regular basis to Awbridge where Chas lived so Chas could take various measurements and templates to copy Skids Bentley. Chas finished 259HTR in 1993 and it has been dry stored ever since. Chas passed away in 2007 at the age of 93 and 259HTR was passed to his step son, the vendor.

Included in the sale is the original Bentley handbook, numerous hand written technical drawings and lists of mods carried out to the chassis, plus list of parts purchased. Correct klaxon horn fitted, and original Bentley inspection lamp fitted under bonnet. Also comes with aero screens and fittings (not fitted to the car) plus a number of spares.

Auctioneers notes: It is worth noting that the previous owners of HUK21 set up Derry Mallalieu engineering specialising in preparation of vintage and classic racing cars in addition to producing the Bentley Barchetta.

The vehicle spent many years in a dry state in the USA which explains the lack of corrosion on the bodywork and chassis, The car was returned to England in 2003 where extensive restoration work was then carried out. The paintwork on the vehicle is in beautiful condition with a deep shine and excellent panel fit, The engine bay has also been detailed. Over the years further works have taken place including an extensive amount of the chrome trim being re-plated, The vehicle has also had a brand new original specification wool cloth headlining professionally installed by a Rolls Royce coach trimmer which is a notoriously hard job on these cars and often neglected. The complete front bench seat has just been fully re-trimmed in St James red leather by a Rolls Royce trained trimmer at over £2,000. TRIUMPH 2000 - 2088cc ~ 1949 Mileage: 76,896 miles Not Warranted When we went to Somerset to view this car, we were astounded by its unbelievable condition. The car has been completely restored by the two previous owners and there are hundreds of photographic records documenting all of the work that was carried out. We cannot emphasise how beautiful this car is. The interior, the dickey seats, the wood work, under the bonnet, everything has been renewed. The leather has been reupholstered in stunning green hide. Mechanically, the car has been completely overhauled, overdrive has also been fitted which makes it a very useful long distance touring car. The history file from the previous owner is about 3 inches thick and includes letters and bills going back to 1965. The vendor has kept his own separate file of work which has been carried out during his ownership. Also included is the original triumph handbook which cost 5 shilling and lubrication chart. From what we can gather from bills and letters in the history file, the car was sold as Southampton Motor Auctions, lot number 105, on 9th October 1965 for £20 to a Mr Hoad. He kept the vehicle until 29th April 1999. The car was then purchased by a Mr Priest who paid £1600 as a restoration project. A letter written by Mr Hoad to the next keeper is included. Mr Priest, we believe, started the restoration but unfortunately passed away, the car was then sold to Mr D Sharp who continued the restoration. Sadly not long after he finished the car, Mr Sharp also passed away and the vendor purchased the car. The vendor is now only selling the vehicle as he is in his 80's and poor health means he can no longer drive it. The car is finished in Champagne with striking contrasting dark green leather upholstery.

The vendor has also drawn our attention to the fact that during his ownership the handbrake and rear brakes have been done, the starter motor has been repaired, front spotlight and overtaking lights have been replaced and a new fuse box has been fitted so that it now takes blade fuses.

Auctioneers notes: I think one would be very hard pressed to find another in this condition. It truly is a credit to the Gentleman who restored the car, the attention to detail is amazing. We also have a box of magazines of which many feature the car and she is often shown on the front cover. Estimated sale price: £18,000 - 19,500

L2 Cams were also fitted along with a ser of new 82.5mm dead headed pistons. The engine is now a very special specification. CHEVROLET GMC AC INTERNATIONAL - 2600cc ~ 1929 Mileage: 2,605 miles Not Warranted Built in Canada, or the USA, in 1929 this superb Chevrolet Roadster was shipped to Australia by Chevrolet as a body-less, running, rolling chassis. The car was bodied locally by as a two-seater with dickey seat and was then registered on 21st July 1929. 1929 was a significant year for Chevrolet with the introduction of its first mass-produced 6-cylinder engine, the 'stovebolt six'. Many moons later the Roadster Sports was restored and was stated to have been in the ownership of the Holden Motor Company until 15 or so years ago. In 2004 the car was shipped to the UK by its owner, a Mr RF Holden, and has been in this country ever since. Beautifully presented in two-tone red with a black hood and tan interior, the car features double-ribbed chrome bumpers at a time when most cars in the UK still had nickel-plated brightwork and it rolls on stylish steel disc wheels recently fitted with new tyres and tubes. The car also features 12 volt electrics. With its strong 194 cubic inch (3.2 litre), overhead valve, 6-cylinder engine. The first and long term owner was a lady with a small nursery business and the second owner was a neighbour who bought the car after the first owner stopped driving.
