What is a WIKI? Is another web 2.0 tool that many educators are using. Don’t need to know HTML can upload audio, video, documents to WIKI. Can use it personally for own development or for classroom. http://www.teachingeverystudent.wikispaces.com

WIKISPACES.com is a wiki space geared toward teachers. It is easily edited. You can go back and see who changed what and when they changed it. Has previous versions. It keeps track of everything. http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers

PODCAST is another web 2.0 tool. PC ONLY Using WORD to its best advantage.

Right click on PC anywhere on top of toolbar. At bottom of menu is CUSTOMIZE. SELECT middle tab COMMAND

Click and drag microfonemicrophone icon. Not insert VOICE but VOICE COMMENT

THIRD TAB IS OPTIONS.

Click on “sound object” Clip on tape cassette. Record right into word document. Audio directions. Sound with word.

Click on red circle. Speak into microfone. See a megafone icon. Double Click and plays recorded file.

Speech Recognition - Accuracy is good but need a lot of memory.

That is word talkWord Talk toolbar.

Speak from cursor, speak paragraph, speak sentence, speak word. Highlight everything whole selection. Configure to change speed and volume. Change color of highlighting. Change font and size of font.

Students can listen to words on spell check. Talking spell check.

Most students can benefit from text to speech.

Now you have the set up files. Install files. You must go to Start programs Look for word talk program Scroll over. Word talk set up. Click on. Check off YES do you wish Wordtalk to automatically load.

The other thing to keep in mind is the voice quality. If you listen to voice quality, I had to pay extra for that voice at Nextup.comwww.nextup.com has excellent voices. If you go to Configure, go to choices, default is Microsoft sam. That’s the voice that is in there by default.

The other thing for learning disabled kids, part of writing process is writing and editing. When they can listen to it, it helps them to listen. Teach them how to listen to writing one sentence at a time. Then they hear the errors.
