Scouts Easter Camp at Crawfordsburn

27 scouts arrived in Crawfordsburn 17th April 2009. The sun was shining for us which is unusual! After setting up all the tents and eating the usual quota of sausages the scouts all headed for a midnight adventure to the beach.

While the leaders rested their weary heads, the scouts chatted until the wee small hours. 9am came too quickly for some of those sleepy heads. Saturday morning was spent building camp sites. The Columbanus team worked a little harder than the rest under the watchful eye of Gary. While Kevin soaked up the sun rays supposedly looking after the square lashings !! The two Annes disappeared to do a treasure hunt - we think they were in the nearby Culloden having a spa. After lunch the scouts hunted aimlessly for the bunnies!!! None were found without a clue or two or five. Kites were then constructed Kevin and Gary holding the secret of the best design and not sharing such information. The kites were launched at the beach but not before stopping at the icecream van and emptying it of icecream. Nathan, Cathal and Owen holding the prize for the best kites or the only ones that actually flew. Dinner was then made using stoves, fires and whatever means we could think of to cook.

Father Brian then arrived to say Mass he had a portion of rather hot curry and asked for a jug of water (think this was for the Mass!) The scouts all enjoyed open air Mass. After Mass Father Brian helped the scouts to wash down their communion with large slices of chocolate cake and cream.

Camp fire was lead by Kieran and Kieran. The fire was a little lifeless but the songs soon livened up the fire. The scouts yet again talked to the wee small hours but this time they woke Kevin. Bad mistake !!

We woke again to the sun shining and the leaders grinning about dry tents. A great weekend was had ROLL ON SUMMER CAMP.

Square lashings. Who's that sitting at the back taking in the sun?

More square lashings in the sunshine.

Strong enough to sit on.

Testing the structure's strength.

The design for the perfect flying kite.

A little help was required to get the kites up into the air.

Some of the kites start to gain altitude.

The scouts relax in the sunshine ...

... as the remaining kites fly higher and higher.

Dinner time! Those meatballs look good.

A full chicken curry meal prepared outdoors.

Boiling pasta with the sauce to be added.

Curry sauce?
