Training Program Information SWIDC Community Leadership Enhancement Program
The following is the training information for the SWIDC Community Leadership Project Training PowerPoint modules. There are five separate modules available for use on the SWIDC webpage, www.swidc.org. The information provided about each training module can be used to assist individuals to decide appropriate use of the training programs. In addition, training programs are designed so that they can be combined, modified, and integrated to create a customized program.
Note: The evaluation master and the hand-out for the community leadership training module are included at the end of this document.
Program #1: Basic Economic Development
Training Program PowerPoint Title: SWIDC Economic Development Module Purpose of the Program: The purpose of this program is to provide a basic definition of economic development, explain how economic development can benefit communities, asks participants to develop a definition of economic development, includes a Fast Facts questionnaire, and provides the opportunity for a local economic development professional to provide information about local activities and programs. Intended Audience: Anyone who is interested in learning about economic development. This program may be too basic for individuals with advanced economic development training or expertise. Length of Program: 1 – 2 hours Number of Breaks: Intended to include a meal following introductions Number of Participants: 15-30 Evaluation: Program should include an evaluation immediately following conclusion of program. A sample evaluation is available for this program Handouts: Required. The Fast Facts Questionnaire is an integral part of the program. Hand-out masters are available. Materials/Equipment Needed: Laptop and projector, hand-outs, hand-out master (Fast Facts Answer Sheet, extra paper for break-out session(s), pencils, Sign-in Sheet, Evaluation Recommendations for Trainer: It is recommended that an economic development professional deliver the economic development portion of the program. A trainer or host is recommended to provide program introductions and close the program.
Program #2: Community Leadership
Training Program PowerPoint Title : SWIDC Community Leadership Training Module Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Community Leadership Training is to provide an inspired view of leadership as it relates to economic development. Audience: Individuals interested in community leadership as it relates to economic development Length of Program: 1-2 hours Number of Breaks: up to two, ten minute breaks at intervals scheduled based on customization of the program Number of Participants: 10-50 Evaluation: Program should include an evaluation immediately following conclusion of program. A sample evaluation is available for this program Handouts: The 360 degree leadership activity requires a hand-out. For purposes of the 360 degree leadership activity, print-out slide #8, 360 Degree Leadership Qualities for participants. Suggested: Provide a program agenda customized to program Materials/Equipment Needed: Laptop and projector, copy of PowerPoint program, flipchart, extra paper for break-out session, pencils Recommendations for Trainer: Individual with stand-up training skills and excellent facilitation skill
Program #3: SWIDC Marketing Your Community
Training Program PowerPoint Title: SWIDC Marketing Your Community Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Marketing Your Community Training is to provide participants with the opportunity to identify the valuable assets and resources of their community, discuss and determine a marketing approach on a community level, and generate discussion and interest in community development. Audience: Individuals interested in community leadership as it relates to economic development Length of Program: 45 minutes - 1 hour Number of Breaks: up to two, ten minute breaks at intervals scheduled based on customization of the program Number of Participants: 10 - 30 Evaluation: Program should include an evaluation immediately following conclusion of program. A sample evaluation is available for this program Handouts: None required. Suggested: Provide a program agenda customized to program Materials/Equipment Needed: Laptop and projector, copy of PowerPoint program, flipchart, extra paper for break-out session, pencils Recommendations for Trainer: Individual with stand-up training skills and excellent facilitation skill
Program #4: SWIDC Economic Development Toolbox
Training Program PowerPoint Title: SWIDC Economic Development Toolbox Module Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Economic Development Toolbox is to provide information on the State of Indiana economic development programs. This module is intended to be customized by an economic development professional. This tool box is not intended to be delivered as one comprehensive program. Rather, it is suggested that a single economic development tool be used in conjunction with customized information added by an economic development professional. Audience: Individuals interested in economic development government programs in Indiana and specific information as it relates to customized information by an economic development professional. Length of Program: ½ to 1 hour per economic development tool Number of Breaks: one, ten minute break halfway through program customization of the program Number of Participants: 10 - 30 Evaluation: Program should include an evaluation immediately following conclusion of program. A sample evaluation is available for this program Handouts: None required. Suggested: Provide a program agenda customized to program Materials/Equipment Needed: Laptop and projector, copy of PowerPoint program, flipchart Recommendations for Trainer: Preferred: economic development expert, Required: Economic development professional
Program #5: Leadership Quotes
Training Program PowerPoint Title: SWIDC Leadership Quotes Module Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Leadership Quotes module is to provide leadership quotes for use preceding the introduction of a program, to run during meal time, or after the conclusion of a training program. Audience: Anyone who is interested in leadership quotes Length of Program: This module is endless and is set on a timer. It will loop to the beginning of quotes and keep running until manually shut-off. Number of Breaks: Not applicable Number of Participants: Not applicable Evaluation: Participants may add information about the leadership quotes in the “comments” section of the program evaluation. Handouts: Not applicable Materials/Equipment Needed: Laptop and projector Recommendations for Trainer: None needed
