CHECKPOINT CHANA by Jeff Page Directed by Manuel Bau
Press Information ! ! VIBRANT NEW WRITING | UNIQUE REDISCOVERIES The world premiere CHECKPOINT CHANA by Jeff Page Directed by Manuel Bau. Lighting by Jamie Platt. Sound by Simon Arrowsmith. Presented by Marricdale Productions in association with Neil McPherson for the Finborough Theatre. Cast: Ulrika Krishnamurti. Matt Mella. Geraldine Somerville. Nathaniel Wade. "We have to make sure we make the right choices. If we do, we're ok and you'll have a career, be someone who is employable and commissionable. Get it wrong and it's, like, all over.” Originally seen as a staged reading as part of Vibrant 2017 – A Festival of Finborough Playwrights, the world premiere of Checkpoint Chana by Jeff Page starring Geraldine Somerville runs at the Finborough Theatre, playing Sunday and Monday evenings and Tuesday matinees from Sunday, 4 March 2018 (Press Night: Monday, 5 March 2018 at 7.30pm). Poet Bev Hemmings is in the eye of a storm after she publishes a poem that the world seems to believe is anti-Semitic. She’s convinced she’s innocent, but everyone else – including her PA, Tamsin – wants her to apologise. A press interview is planned to begin her public rehabilitation, but Bev’s dying father, erratic behaviour and tendency to drink make her public contrition a complex process. Checkpoint Chana examines the point where pro-Palestinian criticism of the government of Israel and anti-Semitism blur. Playwright Jeff Page is a writer and voluntary sector worker. He is a graduate of the John Burgess playwriting course at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton. Plays include Attack of the A&E Zombies (Descent Theatre and Irlam Festival Fringe). -

Ted tracks down the perpetrator of the phenomena, fifteen-year-old David Logan (Tommy Knight), whose parents believe he has healing hands. Unaware that David is using some unorthodox methods, the Logans are set on sharing their son’s gift with the world. With a poet’s passion for the truth, Ted hurries to debunk the miracles and save a young man from a lifetime of embarrassment. Roger Allam (Lady in the Van, Endeavour) leads an all-star cast including Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, Full Metal Jacket), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter), Emily Berrington (The White Queen, The Inbetweeners 2), Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill, Game of Thrones), Geraldine Sommerville (Harry Potter, My Week with Marilyn) and Tommy Knight (Victoria). 2 CAST BIOGRAPHIES ROGER ALLAM stars as the disgruntled, cantankerous semi-famous poet Ted Wallace in the adaptation of Stephen Fry’s novel The Hippopotamus. In Roger’s illustrious career, he has starred in some of Britain’s best loved and most internationally recognized comedies. -

Harry Potter
TRANSFIGURATION MAXIMA!: HARRY POTTER AND THE COMPLEXITIES OF FILMIC ADAPTATION by Philip M. Shafer A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English Middle Tennessee State University May 2016 Dissertation Committee: Dr. Martha Hixon, Dissertation Director Dr. Jennifer Marchant, Reader Dr. David Lavery, Reader To my wife, Tracie, and my two children, Annabeth and Ella: Your love, support, and understanding enabled me to survive grad school. This dissertation is as much yours as it is mine. ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to thank my two youngest siblings, Jennifer and Mandy, for introducing me to the third Harry Potter film, Alfonso Cuarón’s masterful adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I had all but ignored the Harry Potter novels and films prior to seeing Cuarón’s film, but after seeing what he did with Rowling’s text I was hooked. And, after I wrote my first paper on Harry Potter in grad school a year later, the rest—as they say—is history. I would also like to thank those fellow grad students who have challenged me, argued with me, and laughed with me as we studied language, literature, and theory together. I will always appreciate the time we shared. One student in particular, a fellow children’s literature scholar who was a couple of years ahead of me, taught me so much about what it really means to be a PhD student. I wish Agapi Theodorou only the best. I would like to thank my professors for asking me to increase my awareness of the world, its cultures, its languages, and its literary forms. -
