Presidential Candidate

Introduction

Politics in the United States have undergone a significant change in recent times. The two major political parties have been disbanded because the voters have become disenchanted by the corruption of these two parties. This obviously creates a major void in the political system in our country especially with the upcoming presidential election. The election process remains the same as in the past, however the voters are looking to start a new political era in the U.S. without Republicans and Democrats. You will need to form groups in order to campaign for president. Your group will consist of a presidential candidate, a chief of staff, a press secretary, and a treasurer. In some groups one person may have to fill a couple of these roles. The roles will be explained below.

Presidential Candidate

This person in your group is obviously the person running for President of the United States. This person should be comfortable speaking in front of others as he/she will be the face of the campaign. This person should also be able to deal with the intense scrutiny that will undoubtedly come his/her way. The voters and other campaigns will want to find out everything possible about the candidate.

Chief of Staff

The chief of staff is the President’s right-hand man and will serve as the manager of the campaign. If something doesn’t get done or if a poor decision is made it will probably be the chief of staff’s fault. This person will be responsible for the campaign strategy and will be the person who must tell the candidate the truth about how the campaign is going. This person needs to be a good leader and be able to delegate authority.

Press Secretary

The press secretary will organize all public events for the presidential candidate and will be responsible for the candidate’s public image. This person will be responsible for the candidate’s advertisements and webpage. This person will need to understand polls and public opinion as well as advertising strategies. This person may also need to be good at damage control in case of scandal.

Treasurer

The treasurer is in charge of the finances for the campaign. This job includes research and fundraising. You will coordinate closely with the rest of the campaign to make certain that funds are being used in a wise manner. This person will need to understand budgeting and be able to make tough decisions. The ability to use Microsoft Excel would be beneficial.

The first task that your group will be responsible for is creating a political party. You will need to name your new party and also come up with a party symbol. This logo will be something that the general public will equate to your party. For example, the old Republican Party symbol was an elephant, and the Democratic Party symbol was a donkey. Obviously you will not want to create a symbol that will offend the general public. This symbol should also be something that you can easily recreate because it will probably be present on your webpage, bumper stickers, billboards, etc. Your group also will need to fill out the attached list of priorities. Instructions are also on the attached sheet. This sheet should reflect the opinions of the candidate, although the candidate should discuss these topics with the group.
