Dear Young Families,

Our shortened week was packed full of learning.

Fall weather has arrived and the temperatures have been chilly. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather with coat, hat, and gloves. Students go outside everyday unless it is precipitating or the temperature is 5 Degrees or Below.

Health Notes: Please make sure that any medical note or pe/recess excuse is given to the school nurse, Mrs. Chani McOmber ([email protected]) as well as your child’s classroom teacher.

The Week of October 21

 On Thursday, October 24, we are very excited to have a special guest visit our school. Ms. Octavia Spencer, Academy Award Winning Actor from the Help, is speaking to our 3rd-5th grade students about her new book, Randi Rhodes, Ninja Detective: The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit.

 The Fall Party will be held on Friday, October 25. Students may bring their costumes to change into for the party. Please make sure that your child’s costume is school appropriate. If you would like your child to participate in an alternative activity during the fall party, please contact me. ([email protected])

 The first quarter ends on Friday, October 25. Please make sure that you have signed up for Parent Teacher Conferences on November 7, 8, and 13 . If you would like to meet with another teacher who works with your child (math acceleration, specials teacher, reading improvement, ELL, special education teacher, etc.), please contact them to schedule a conference time. Report Cards

This year, report cards will be available for viewing online through eschool Home Access center. Hard copies of report cards will not be sent home. Parents will need their username and password in order to view their child’s report card in the eschool Home Access Center. Please contact the school office if you need your log-in information for the Home Access Center.

PDAC World Cafe

I am looking for a few parent representatives to attend the PDAC World Café on Monday, October 28. Each year the Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) hosts the World Cafe at Waubonsie Valley High School from 6:45 pm – 9:00 pm. This year’s theme is: How Can We All Answer the Call to Action? The focus of the World Café is to address how the extended school community can meet the learning needs of all students. Every school building within District 204 will be represented during this important round table conversation. Please email me if you are interested in attending this event with me and several teacher representatives from Young School. Please find attached the World Café invitation for your review.

Timeless Mementos to Celebrate your Child’s Education The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation is offering commemorative pewter keepsake ornaments of 34 school buildings in District 204. Cost is $15 each. Orders can be placed using the form found on the IPEF website at http://204foundation.org/pewter.php. Orders must be placed by November 21st to ensure holiday delivery.
