Honors criteria for grades 7 and 8

Honor cords at graduation are awarded based upon marks earned in both seventh and eighth grades.

A place on the honor roll may be earned each trimester based upon the total number of quality points earned in the five major subjects (Religion, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies) and grades of 3 or higher in the minor subjects. Minor subject grades do not count into the total. Effort, conduct and personal growth grades must be Excellent or Satisfactory in each subject area for a place on the trimester honor roll.

The point value is derived from the assessment card grade.

Honors with distinction is a total of 20 or more points in the major subjects. Honors is a total of 17 – 19 points in the major subjects

At graduation Academic Achievement is recognized in the following ways: Cords - based on marks earned by students for both 7th and 8th grades. Medals – for exceptional achievement in individual subjects for 7th and 8th grades.

The criteria are:  Quality points will be awarded for each grade of the five major subjects every trimester.  Students must have no less than eight academic quality points in each of the minor subjects each year for academic honors.  Students must have either a grade of Excellent or Satisfactory in Personal Growth each trimester  All effort grades must be Excellent or Satisfactory for five out of six trimesters.  All conduct grades must be Excellent or Satisfactory each trimester

Honor Cords (Based on academic quality points for 7th & 8th grades) All of the above criteria with a total quality points for major subjects merits the following: Honors – 102 – 116 quality points (Blue and White Cord) Honors with Distinction – 117 or more quality points (Gold Cord)

Medals (Based on academic quality points for 7th & 8th grades) Individual subject medals will also be awarded to deserving students at the Graduation Awards Ceremony. Medals will be presented to those students who have received 24 or more points in a subject area for 7th and 8th grade and have met the other criteria for honors in terms of effort, conduct and personal growth for all areas.

General Excellence will be awarded to those students who have demonstrated that their academic achievement is Generally Excellent. Medals will be presented to those students with the highest total points for grades 7 and 8.
