Let it help us to fight against all our sins and wrong desires; and let it defend us against the assaults of the devil and the bad thoughts of our hearts and give us firm loyalty to Thee and a happy end, through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Text: Rev. 21:1-8 Aim: To stir a longing and hunger for Heaven, the place which God has prepared for us. Where we shall have all the comfort we need, with no more heat.
Introduction: Heat is experienced as a result of the concentration of the rays of the sun in a particular place. We hear news of many people dying in Europe and America because of heat wave. The effect of global warming is seen in drought and in some parts of Africa, a hot weather which has adverse effects on man, animal and plants such as heat stroke (Isa 49:10) or dehydration. Let us be encouraged that God has prepared a place for us that would be like Eden (Gen. 3:8), where there will be no more heat.
Study Guide: 1a. Have you ever experienced extreme heat? How did it affect you? b. What are the effects of extended exposure to extreme heat on man, animal or plant? c. What useful purpose does heat serve in human or plant’s life? 2a Are there experiences or circumstances that we pass through in life which can be likened to heat? Discuss with some practical examples. John 16:23; James 1:2,3;I Pet. 4:12, 13. b. Does the usefulness of heat teach us anything about these experiences? Consider 1Pet 1:6-7; Heb. 12:5-11; 2 Cor. 1:8-10. 3. Heat has some useful purposes here on earth as seen above. Why then do you think God promises a place where there will be no heat? Rev 7;13-16. 4. What do all these tell us about fire of Hell? Mark 9:43-44; Luke 16:22-26; Matt. 24:50-51.
Conclusion. Any person, who misses the eternal presence of God, will invariably not escape eternal burning fire of Hell with its incomparable heat. Therefore, do not allow the heat that tough situations of life produce lead you into the heat in Hell! You have been warned.
Food for Thought. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust Him for His grace. Behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face.

Come and rejoice with me! I, once so sick at heart, Have met with One who knows my case, And knows the healing art.
Come and rejoice with me! For I was wearied sore, And I have found a mighty arm Which holds me evermore.
Come and rejoice with me! My feet so wide did roam, And One has brought me from afar, To find in Him my home.
Come and rejoice with me! For I have found a Friend, Who knows my heart’s most secret depths, Yet loves me without end.
I knew not of His love; And He had loved so long, With love so faithful and so deep, So tender and so strong.
And now I know it all, Have heard and known His voice, And hear it still from day to day, Can I enough rejoice?

“And now, Israel, ‘what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul” Deut. 10:12.
Some may not understand how joyful it can be to serve the LORD. We are not talking about mere happiness or laughter that may be derived or induced as a result of earthly achievements or acquisition of material wealth and stuff. I am talking about a way of life. When you have joy in your heart from being a faithful servant of God, it will give you stability in your life that produces peace and hope.
David certainly understood how joyful it was to serve God. He took great delight in serving God and especially in worshipping Him. We can see this by his life and by the many praise songs he composed in the psalms, especially our appointed psalm for this morning service – Psalm 122:1, “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” These verses aptly express David’s joy in serving God. As Christians, we should be full of joy when we think about all that God has done for us in the past, what He is doing for us today, and what He will do for us in the future. Can you imagine how life would be if God was not in our lives, sent His only beloved Son to die for our sins and offered us salvation? It would be a pretty pitiable life as expressed by Paul in I Corinthians 15:9, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”
As we read in Psalm 122:1, David loved it when it was time to worship God. We should have the same joy today. What can be more exciting or more valuable than coming to the house of the Lord and worshipping our creator? The basic aim of our coming together is to form the body of Christ and to worship God. Unfortunately, some Christians go to Church for the social aspect of it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the pleasure of being with our family members and friends at Church, nonetheless, it should not be our main reason for going to Church.
As we gather to worship our creator today, let us remember the admonition in the letter to the Hebrews 13:15-16 that say, “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. When we sing praises to God and do good to others and share what we have with others, it is considered a sacrifice that God is favourably disposed to. Jesus is our best example of servitude. He said, ‘The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve’ Mt. 20:28. Once we choose to become Christians, we become the Lord’s servants. If knowing what Christianity is all about and how God has made it possible for us to have salvation does not bring joy to your heart and cause you to want to serve God, then nothing will.
Billy Sunday said, “When Christians get to the point in their life where it is no longer joyful to serve God, then, something is wrong.
May our joy in the Lord never diminish and may we joyfully run our race to the end. Amen!
