Hardware Computer parts that you can see and touch. Icon A small graphic symbol that can represent a file, folder, or application software. Keyboard Hardware that contains a set of keys you tap to insert text and numbers or perform special tasks using special function keys. Maximize A button in the upper-right corner of a window you click to size the window to cover the screen. button Minimize A button in the upper-right corner of a window you click to hide a window. When a program is minimized, a button representing it shows on the task bar. button Monitor Computer hardware with a screen that displays the documents you create, and programs you select. Mouse A pointing device used to perform a task such as clicking or dragging Mouse The symbol on the text area of the screen that is moved by the mouse in the shape of an “I”. If the mouse points at toolbars it becomes an arrow. Pointer Printer Hardware that prints a hard copy of electronic documents. Screen The viewing area on a computer monitor. Space bar Spaces the cursor forward one space at a time. Task bar Area at the bottom of the computer screen that displays buttons for open documents and applications.
