She married Virgil Price, now 28 deceased, and with him raised a fine family of six children, Linda 29 Davis, Pamela Parks, Virgil Randy Price, Ronald Price, Trani 30 Price, and Tony Price, who have given their parents the joy of ten 31 grandchildren; and 32 33 Whereas, in the 1940s, her husband started Chapin Drycleaners, 34 the oldest minorityowned business in Chapin. The entire Price 35 family became thoroughly involved in the Chapin community, 36 with all the children attending Chapin High School; and 37 38 Whereas, as part of her active commitment to the Chapin 39 community, Loretta Price is a big supporter and member of the 40 Chapin Chamber of Commerce, and, recognizing the need, she has 41 worked diligently to make Chapin a drugfree community; and 42

[476] 2 1 Whereas, in addition, she has proven a persuasive spokesperson 2 for the AfricanAmerican community and so has earned yet further 3 respect from her fellow citizens; and 4 5 Whereas, for her efforts, her community has inducted Loretta Price 6 into the Chapin Hall of Fame, and Chapin High School will honor 7 her during a Black History Month program on February 27, 2009; 8 and 9 10 Whereas, the Senate recognizes that the success of the State of 11 South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of 12 American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the 13 dedication of individuals like Loretta Price who use their talents 14 and resources to serve others. Now, therefore, 15 16 Be it resolved by the Senate: 17 18 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 19 honor Loretta Price, of Lexington County, for her outstanding 20 community service, and recognize and commend her as an 21 articulate spokesperson for the AfricanAmerican community 22 during the celebration of Black History Month. 23 24 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 25 Loretta Price. 26 XX 27
