2. YU LIONS WIN MCGILL TEAM CHALLENGE!! The York varsity Lions won the McGill Team Challenge, battling it out with 14 other university teams. Highlights: • 4 Lion’s in the men’s 60m final • Georgewill wins weight throw with record breaking throw • Heather Hamilton wins Pole Vault with meet, facility & YU school record – now leads country. • Men’s 4x200m relay team win and lead country • Elijah Allan wins Pent • Elizabeth Petrov wins shot and moves up 5 spaces in rankings with pb • Kristin Obrochta places 3rd in weight throw Lion’s compete at Home this Saturday at York U Open, while 4 YU athletes, 3 of which head to Notre Dame for the Meyo Classic.

3. ANOTHER ONTARIO RECORD FOR GEROGEWILL!! For the second time in the past week, junior YUTC thrower Suyi Georgewill has rewritten the record books! While competing for the York Lions, Suyi threw 15.70m to win the men’s 35lb weight throw and set a new personal best, YU varsity record, and a Athletics Ontario U19 record. This mark of 15.70m now ranks this first year thrower 5th in the nation with just four weeks to go before the OUA Championships. Suyi’s previous best with the heavy 35lb weight and YU record was 14.61m. This also marks the second time in the past week that Suyi has set a Ontario record. Last weekend, Suyi set the Ontario U19 record with the 25lb weight.

4. CALL FOR ENTRIES! Coaches – I need your entries for 3 meets this week. Remember – for insurance and legal reasons, athletes must be fully registered for the 2009 season before they will be entered into any competitions. Here are the next meets where entries are now being accepted.

4. NEXT FUNDRASING EVENT – Please Volunteer Thank you to all who volunteered this past weekend. Your assistance really helped us host a very good meet. Thanks to your help we received quite a number of comments on how well the meet was run.

We are hosting 2 meets this weekend in prep for the up coming OUA Championships! Please volunteer and get your name on the list of volunteers for the OUA Championships! OUA’s this year will be a very exciting meet. If you have never experienced a University Championship meet before it is quite something. A huge team event, these athletes will have the roof coming off the building with all the school cheers etc. Especially during the relays!

Those of you who volunteer for the OUA meet, will not only get to earn hours against your YUTC fundraising commitment, you will get free meals and a OUA volunteer T-shirt!

YUTC Relay Teams One of the best events in track and field is relay racing! Fun and exciting. We have tried our best to enter a few relay teams this year. In doing so we have moved a few athletes up an age group in order to pull a team together.

If your name has been selected to run on one of the relay teams below, please confirm that you are available to run that relay and connect with your coach to when the relay team is practicing this week. This is a championship event and should take priority over individual events. Please ensure that you have fresh legs to run the relay. I think a few of you are running too many events before the relay and will not be in good form for the relay. Please discuss with your coach today and let’s make some changes to ensure success.
