Job Title: Director of Finance Reports to: Executive Director Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Generous benefits package. Classification: Exempt Start Date: Position will remain open until filled.

Job Scope This position offers an opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly personable, administrative professional with a passion for environmental issues to make a difference in the conservation community. We’re looking for an experienced, results-oriented individual with an extensive fiscal management track record for this position. Applicants must have demonstrated know-how and the proven ability to interact with Executive Directors, Development Directors, other top managers, funders, and Boards of Directors. We want someone with exceptional communication skills. We are looking for a strong, senior-level professional, who displays energy and professionalism in a participatory manner, to contribute these critical teams.

The Director of Finance is responsible for the entire range of financial management from daily operations to high-level management. The position provides ongoing fiscal management including A/R, A/P, cash flow projections, financial statements, budget development and monitoring. The Director will oversee the annual audit, all licensing and insurance and reporting requirements. This position will also provide financial reports to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Fiscal Management ~70%  Provide ongoing fiscal management including preparing A/R and A/P, and monthly financial reports.  Manage payroll and benefits, including time tracking, PTO accrual and retirement plan.  Work with an external CPA on the annual audit and the preparation of the IRS 990.  Manage bank and investment accounts.  Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and cash flow projections  Provide assistance in collecting and analyzing financial data for grant requests, grant budgets, and annual reports  Develop and maintain fiscal policies and procedures, including adequate financial controls.  Monitor all licensing requirements and make sure adequate insurance is maintained

Planning and Evaluation ~15%  Assist executive director and others in developing and executing strategic plans, annual operating plans and individual work plans  Provide assistance in collecting and analyzing project evaluation data

Board Effectiveness ~10%  Assist the board of directors in developing, implementing and evaluating their plans by providing direct assistance (over, please)  Assist in board meeting coordination plus provide limited staff support to the various board committees

Other Duties ~5%  Assist with management of donor and grant record keeping and reporting  Assist with staff scheduling, and staff and board meeting preparation,  Assist with the smooth and efficient running of the office

Primary Qualifications  Experience as an executive director, fiscal manager and/or senior level administrator with a demonstrated record of progressive achievement  At least 10 years experience with a wide range of nonprofit organizations,  Familiar with the fiscal management, administrative and fundraising needs of nonprofit organizations from a variety of perspectives  Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to exercise sound judgment, and have displayed initiative and innovation on past jobs and/or contracts.  Proven ability to manage multiple projects and assignments, and to meet deadlines; experience in contract management, including the proven ability to work closely with consultants and vendors  Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proven ability to convey information clearly  Willingness to relocate to XX if necessary

Secondary Qualifications  Considerable experience in assessing organizational needs and providing organizational development  Passionate about conservation issues  Experience in analyzing complex organizational issues; able to distill data and make recommendations
