Student Research Fund

Office of Student Creative Activity and Research (OSCAR) Fund TRAVEL TO PRESENT RESEARCH RESULTS

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Grant Guidelines

Proposals requesting support for travel costs to present research results are due on a rolling basis and must be submitted at a minimum of 10 business days before the event. OSCAR DOES NOT FUND RETROACTIVELY. No handwritten applications will be accepted.

Students should use the Application form and Budget Detail worksheet on the OSCAR website to prepare their request, print and obtain signatures. The hard copy, along with the required documentation and letter of support, should then be submitted to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Room 208 Old Main. (If the electronic devise you are using does not support a Windows Microsoft Office environment, please complete to the form in a student computer lab or Kiosk on campus.)

To be eligible for support from the OSCAR, a student must be enrolled in a credit-bearing experience at UWSP when applying for the grant and presenting the research. For the 2016-17 academic year, students are eligible for a one-time travel award (maximum $1,000). Large group travel requests are limited to $5,000 per event. The student career limit for OSCAR travel funds is $1,600 per student.

Effective January 5, 2015, all airfare must be purchased through Concur or Fox World Travel. After July 1, 2015, only travel booked through the contracted program will be eligible for UW payment or reimbursement. Individuals will be personally liable for travel expenses not booked through Concur or Fox World Travel.

Effective July 1, 2015, OSCAR Travel will no longer reimburse for meals.

Please note: If two or more students plan to make professional presentations at the same conference, a single application should be prepared for the group involved. The cover sheet should list the lead student’s name, signature, and information. Please duplicate page three as need for the other student’s information and signature. Where possible, the OSCAR committee expects students to share transportation and lodging. The OSCAR committee requires that students funded in this special grant category give a presentation on campus, preferably to an undergraduate professional society or at a symposium, about what they learned at the conference, especially the benefits of attending professional meetings.

NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS: The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs reviews the travel proposals. The Accounting Office is notified and account numbers are assigned for all successful grants. An official letter and budget form will then be sent to the applicant. This process may take up to two weeks after submission.

Format Guidelines: Your grant application must include:

1. Completed application with all signatures.

2. Completed Budget Detail worksheet: Include the cost of airfare or automobile, lodging and conference registration fee. Indicate any supplemental funding sources, including personal funds. If the request is for a group presentation, please indicate how expenses will be shared.

3. Brief Abstract: Include a brief abstract of the conference presentation. 4. Include your plans for disseminating information or sharing with other UWSP students what you learned at the conference.

5. Attach a copy of your notification to present at the conference.

6. Letter of support from your faculty mentor.

7. Supporting documentation of expenses listed.

The funds requested must be expended within 90 days of the travel period end date.
