SOCCER CAMP (Ages 4-7 and 8-13)

NEW THIS SUMMER! Ages 4-13 are welcome to join us for a week long soccer camp with coaches from the Play Soccer organization. Soccer Camp will build on simple skills and knowledge through drills, fun games, and scrimmages. Don’t miss this fun opportunity! Great for both beginners and experienced soccer players!

Camp runs the week of July 23-27.

Ages 8-13 meet Monday-Friday in the morning from 9 AM – 12 PM. Ages 4-7 meet Monday-Friday in the early evening from 5 PM – 6 PM.

Costs include 1 week of camp with excellent coaches, t-shirt, water bottle, and a surprise gift from the coaches!

We need a minimum of 10 kids for the camp so sign up soon!

No Recreation discount applied to this fee. Soccer Camp is a separate fee.

** There is a $6.00 sibling discount! CHEWONKI (Students going into 6th-9th grades)

Students going into 6th-9th grades are invited to come camping with us at Chewonki! The Chewonki Foundation is dedicated to providing educational experiences that foster an appreciation for the natural world and emphasizes the power of teamwork. Students will live and work together in groups of 10-12 at established campsites. Chaperones from the Recreation Department will live alongside the group throughout the program. Students will work together in group challenges and a series of problem-solving tasks designed to develop teamwork, decision-making, and creative problem solving.

For more information or with questions, please stop by the Recreation Office during open hours to take a look at the Chewonki brochures or speak with one of the Recreation staff.

** Please note that this is a 2-night camping trip with 2 or 3 chaperones from the Recreation Department and staff from Chewonki.

Open to students going into 6th-9th grades WHEN: August 22-24 WHERE: Chewonki; Wiscasset, Maine COST: $60/student ($175 total but Recreation is covering cost)

PRE-TEEN/TEEN POTTERY (Grades 6 and up) Creative projects with enticing themes will inspire the imagination! This class will focus more on improving throwing techniques. Students will learn how to work larger using less clay. Each student will learn to recycle clay and how to handle the work. Projects will include celestial tiles, teapots, masks, bowl molds, bird feeders, and chip and dip platters.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30-4:30 Cost: $96.00/6 classes; $192.00/12 classes; Drop-In rate: $18.00 Instructor: Towanda or Max

ADVANCED TEEN POTTERY (Prior experience)

This class is for students who are self-motivated and able to work independently. Students will select themes and projects prior to each week. Projects will be more advanced and combine several techniques. Students will also learn more about firing and glazing. Students will focus on creating a “set of three” and be expected to make a teapot for the August Show.

NOTE: “Drop-In” participants are welcome to attend the Advanced Teen and Adult classes. Fees vary depending on the projects selected. Prior notification for these classes is required so that we may have sufficient supplies. Call 766-2805 from 8:30- 2:30 PM to sign up as a drop in for any of these classes.

TEEN NIGHT (Ages 13+) Join us at the Community Center on Friday evenings to hang out, play games, and enjoy other activities. The Community Center offers an assortment of games including a Pool Table (.75 cents per game), Air Hockey, Fooz Ball Table, Skee Ball, Darts, Ping Pong, assorted Board Games, a Karaoke Machine, and Knitting Supplies. A supervisor will be on duty during this time.

TEEN TRIPS (Grades 6 and up)

MAINE ROCK GYM SATURDAY JULY 28th Cost: $17/person plus money for boat ticket and dinner

SIX FLAGS NEW ENGLAND SATURDAY AUGUST 11th Cost: $50/person plus money for boat and food Would love some volunteers to drive!

TEEN ARTS AND CRAFTS (Ages 11 and up) Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays for an arts and craft project. Thursday crafts may include Altered Books, Jewelry Making, Plaster Crafts, and more! Tuesday crafts are listed below:

July 10th: Mystical Sea Creatures, $12 Assemble and paint small driftwood pieces to create imaginative sculptures inspired by Mexican folk art. Bright colors, fun patterns.

July 17th, Basket Weaving, $14.00 This intermediate style is a ‘pocket style’ basket that can hang on the wall to hold paper, pencils or other personal items.

July 24th, Macramé Bracelets, $10.00 Easy steps to make a friendship bracelet with hemp and beads. Other projects too, make one or more!

July31st, Painting Cats & Dogs, $12.00 Fantastic Felines & Cosmic Canines! Explore the unique style of artist Laura Birch. Glittering & sparkling designs of cats, dogs or other domesticated friends.

August 7th, Colorful Seascapes, $ 12.00 Select from Scratch Art, Shrink Film or Metallic Foil, to create a palette of textures & patterns of familiar beach themes.

August 14th, Summer Reflections, $14.00 Gather up 3-5 photos from your summer adventures (copies work great), a few island souvenirs (postcards, tickets, schedules), and join us to fill a small accordion style album. We’ll provide stickers, charms and beads.
