STUDENT EXPECTATIONS 2016-2017
Students must come prepared to class with the following materials:
1. A 3-ring BINDER for Spanish class (only) with three dividers separated as follows:
a. Calentamientos (Warm-ups) - to be arranged in order and will be graded
b. Apuntes/Vocabulario (Class Notes/Vocabulary) -to be organized according to each theme/unit
c. Actividades/Tarea (Activities/Homework)– for all in-class practice activities and HOMEWORK assignment (HW must have a complete heading)
2. Lined paper for binder
3. A pencil case with a supply of pens, #2 pencils, a highlighter, an eraser and a personal manual pencil sharpener
4. A double-pocket folder that will remain in the classroom
5. Student Planner – for writing all homework assignments
Grades will be calculated as follows:
Summative Assessments (major projects, presentations, unit/chapter tests, and exams): 50%
Formative Assessments (class work, daily or weekly performance/assignments, quizzes, smaller projects, warm-ups and exit slips): 40%
Homework (include independent practice which represents an extension of the daily objective. Homework receives full credit if it is completed and handed in at the beginning
of the class period, is complete, and demonstrates the students best effort): 10% Tests and quizzes: Vocabulary quizzes will be given approximately once a week. Most quizzes will be announced, but some may be unannounced. All tests will be announced. Tests and quizzes will test oral, listening, writing, and/or reading skills. Projects: Will be assigned several times throughout the year. Each project will include an assessment rubric. Class work: Will consist of oral, listening, writing and reading activities and will be done both individually and in groups. Students are expected to participate positively and to meet the classroom expectations on a daily basis. Students are responsible for completing all assignments, homework, and projects in a timely manner. Full credit is earned when the assignment is on time and demonstrates the student’s best effort. Late assignments will be given a maximum grade of 50 if completed within a week of the due date. Assignments not completed will receive a grade of zero.
Classroom Rules All students will follow rules of conduct for Grover Cleveland Middle School.
Please always… 1. Come to class on time and prepared with all required supplies and assignments. 2. Stay in your seat unless you have permission to get up. 3. Raise your hand if you have something to ask or say. 4. Respect others and their property. 5. Refrain from eating, drinking or chewing gum. You may drink water in class but no other beverage is permitted. 6. Pay attention and put forth your best effort!
Consequences Violations of classroom rules will result in the following consequences: 1. Warning 2. Detention 3. Parent Contact 4. Office Referral
Big 5 Any violation of the “Big 5” school rules results in an automatic office referral. 1. Inappropriate physical conduct; 2. Willful disregard of any adult’s authority; 3. Being sent to the office for disruption of classroom activity; 4. Throwing anything at anyone; 5. Continual harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying.
Please Note: o Detention must be served within two days or student will be given a referral. o It is the student’s responsibility to notify his/her parents about a teacher detention. o Repeated violations of school rules and regulations may result in the student being excluded from participating in school extracurricular activities and/or field trips. Electronic Devices and Bring Your Own Device (B.Y.O.D) Grover Cleveland Middle School is a B.Y.O.D (Bring Your Own Device) school. Students can use their personal devices (iPads, laptops, smart phones, etc) in class only when permitted by the teacher for academic purposes. Without Señora Ferrer’s expressed permission the devices should be turned off and secured in students' lockers as per the GCMS student hand book.
PARENTS: Please encourage your child to keep up with his/her work and to take advantage of the extra help sessions before and after school if they have difficulty with the material.
