Quality and HSE Manager REMSA Offshore Exploration Campaign, Libya, August to October 2006 and July to September 2008

REMSA is a subsidiary of Repsol, operating its first exploration drilling project in Libya and also their first worldwide as operators. It consists of 2 rank wildcat exploration wells as nearest offset wells are 30 to 80 km away.

Key Achievements:

REMSA adopted the Offshore Drilling Operations HSE procedures prepared for their Libya project company wide.

Scope of Work

 Perform HAZID and prepare Risk Register for drilling 2 exploration wells offshore in the Sirte Gulf near Benghazi

 Co-lead the Drill The Well On Paper exercise together with specialists from the Peak Group for the REMSA Exploration Campaign

 Work with the Drilling team on the planning and preparation of the operations and drilling program, reviewing new technologies and implementing new processes

Quality and HSE Manager INPEX Masela Ltd Appraisal Drilling Project Indonesia, May 2005 to May 2008

INPEX Masela Ltd., a subsidiary of INPEX Corporation (largest gas exporter of LNG from Indonesia) is first time operator of its Masela block in the East Timor Sea, Indonesia. The project consisted of drilling and testing 4 deep water (450 – 700 m) appraisal wells.

Key Achievements

 Eliminated Down Hole Tool failures due to poor maintenance or preparation

Scope of Work

 Implement Engineering and Operations Quality Management processes to reduce and eliminate Known sources of NPT and Failures, as well as incorporating Lessons Learned from previous operations and from well to well.

 Set up a Quality Assurance and Control process for all Down Hole equipment, both rental and purchased, complete with expert witnessing of inspections, maintenance and pre-deployment testing, function testing and calibration where applicable by using TH Hill & Associates DS1 inspection standards.

 Provide day to day operational and engineering assistance to the well engineering team during the drilling and well testing phase of 4 deep water exploration wells

 Work with the Drilling Team to plan critical operations and implement new technologies

 Organize and lead the Drill The Well On Paper as well as the HAZID for the drilling campaign

 Set up a QHSE Management System, complete with Policies, Standards, Event Management Systems, Environmental Management Program, Emergency Response Plans, Spill Modeling and Contingency Plans, Bridging Documents, Regulatory Compliance, Training and Induction programs and operational QHSE support.

 Coordinate and finalize the Environmental Impact Assessment study, the Oil Spill simulation scenario and the Environmental Management plan

Quality and HSE Manager BOKOR Field Redevelopment Project Malaysia, July 2004 to February 2005

The BOKOR Field Redevelopment project is a joint effort between Petronas Carigali and Schlumberger to rejuvenate older offshore oil reservoirs to increase production by implementing a new FDP.

Key Achievements

 Achieved project execution without any recordable Health, Safety and Environmental incidents while accumulating approximately 260,000 man-hours.

 Prepare all Interface Documents between Petronas Carigali, Schlumberger and Smedvig- Tioman Drilling companies.

 Prepare and implement a detailed Simultaneous Operations Management Process, complete with SIMOPS Coordination Offshore.

 Select and train HSE Coordinators, HSE Officers and Simultaneous Operations Coordinators.

 Contractor and Third Party HSE Management, including Hook Up and Commissioning, Onshore Fabrication, Marine Transport, Diving and Underwater construction groups.

 Prepare and conduct and Environmental HAZID exercise to identify all Environmental risks of the project.

Well and Completions Engineering, Petroleum Development Oman, January 2003 to June 2004 – IPM Project Manager

Focusing on South Oman Nimr and Zauliah oil fields, the mandate was to optimize the Drilling and Completions process for new infield development wells

Key Achievements

 Developed a Well Delivery System based on a Life-Cycle approach that has been implemented by all Assets in South Oman after proving notable increases in initial production from wells delivered by the process as compared with the existing systems.

 Prepared and implemented a Pilot Project to test a novel Profile Control Process in horizontal and shallow open hole completed Oil wells together with a PDO Team, the first well went from +90% to less than 6% water cut and oil production increased from 16 to 218 m3/day.

Scope of Work

 Map the Well Delivery Process in two pilot Assets to apply a Life-Cycle management approach to well delivery.

 Develop a Well Delivery Process consistent with the existing Asset Management processes, ensuring that a Quality Management and Continuous Improvement focus was incorporated.

 Demonstrate the effectiveness of the new Well Delivery Process by monitoring the short term production results of new wells.

 Develop and implement a pilot project to test water swelling external packers as a means of achieving profile control in horizontal shallow open hole completion wells in south Oman.

- 4 - PDO is the JV between Shell and the Omani government that operates the majority of the oilfields in the Sultanate.

Quality and HSE Manager and Technology Implementation Manager, Petroiran Development Company May 2001 to December 2002

QHSE Manager Key Achievements

. 3 rigs attained the 1-year without a Lost Time Incident and completed the project without any Lost Time Injuries. The fourth rig was hired and came on contract 6 months prior to my departure and had 170 days w/o an LTI. Previous performance was well bellow the standard, as on average the rigs were having 1 LTI every 40 days

Scope of Work . Responsible for setting up and implementing the QHSE Management System for this new NIOC affiliate in Iran based in Tehran and operating up to 4 Jack Up MODU rigs. . Providing full Risk Assessment and evaluation with the corresponding mitigation and prevention plans and their implementation. . Building the operations organization structure, establishing Roles and Responsibilities, coaching Management in the implementation of their new organization, providing on the job training to the Project Team composed of both Iranian professionals form the country’s Oil and Gas Industry as well as seasoned professional expatriates from a diverse background.

Technology Implementation Manager Key Achievements

. Implemented a novel borehole stabilization method to control sloughing shale, using fiber reinforced cement plugs, realizing 1.2 Million $ savings to the client by avoiding a side track of the well. . Implemented a selective matrix stimulation process using Coiled Tubing and the “Discovery MLT” tool, allowing to selectively place the treatment in both legs of the multilateral well. . Applied rotary steerable drilling system to improve the efficiency and reduce the time to drill the build sections in re-entry wells. . Evaluated production from multilateral wells and verify the absence of cross flow between reservoir layers using production-logging tools conveyed on Coiled Tubing.

This project was the execution phase of the MDP for an Iranian Buy Back agreement composed of a combination of exploration and appraisal drilling prospects with a sizeable re-development campaign of several mature oilfields and a virgin gas field, comprising a minimum of 29 wells to be drilled and or re-entered. At the time of my departure there had been an expansion of the work scope and 22 wells had been drilled with 16 more to go. I departed the project after completing the HSE management system implementation and training of the Iranian Staff that would be chartered with its maintenance.

Business Development Manager Schlumberger Libya, February 2000 to May 2001 Scope of Work

- 5 - . Investigating the Libyan upstream market and appraising potential partners for the implementation of Integrated Project Management. . Coordinated a multi-service tender for the development phase of a gas field in western Libya, winning a contract for +/- 300 million $ in services for Schlumberger. . Organizing the Schlumberger oilfield affiliates and preparing them for an Integrated Project Management environment. . Detecting new business opportunities for non-conventional services application, presenting the proposed solution and setting up the implementation phase for a comprehensive reservoir wide rock mechanics and mechanical rock properties mapping process. The 14 months stay in Libya had as main purpose to evaluate the opportunities for the introduction of innovative business approaches in the upstream sector.

Senior Drilling Engineer Conoco Gulf of Paria West project Schlumberger IPM, August 1998 to February 2001. Scope of work . Set up and implement an online Daily Drilling Report system based on Landmark’s DIMS software. . Migrate all Daily Operations Report data gathered using the previous format into the DIMS format and database. . Mobilization and successful start up of all Schlumberger services for Formation Evaluation and Well Construction services. . Preparation of a preliminary cost estimate to perform a 16 well appraisal and development plan for the Corocoro discovery. . Successful drilling, completion and temporary suspension of 2 HPHT exploration wells in an abnormal pressure environment, with tectonically disturbed stress fields and reactive shale. . Audit existing Offshore Drilling Contractors and all major well service providers pre-qualified for the 2nd phase of the project.

The project consisted of drilling two rank wildcat exploration wells with the aim of assessing the hydrocarbon potential of 2 plays in the Gulf of Paria West block in eastern Venezuela, offshore from the Orinoco Delta. The results of the exploration campaign later led to an appraisal campaign of the Cororocoro field consisting of 8 wells, currently being drilled. In the exploration drilling campaign, numerous technologies were applied, such as pore pressure prediction, Formation Evaluation while drilling using resistivity at bit as well as a drilling mechanics sensor package, annular pressure while drilling, utilizing a Reaming While drilling BHA, to name a few.

Regional Personnel Manager / Project Manager in Training Schlumberger IPM, Latin America Region, January 1998 to August 1998 Scope of Work . Staff all new projects and maintain staffing levels in existing projects. . Manage the activity reduction and retain key workforce, preventing massive layoffs through targeted personnel retention strategies. . Recruit and retain key personnel to complement and satisfy existing projects staffing requirements. . Manage the Training and Development program for young graduate engineers. During this period the function moved from a business expansion to a business recession environment, requiring a change in personnel management strategy in order to ensure the long-term continuity of the resource base employed to staff existing and future projects.

- 6 - In addition, I enrolled in a Development program, both theoretical and practical to become an Integrated Services Project Manager. This included a course accredited by the PMI as well as exposure to several Tenders for Projects and Projects in Operation in Venezuela.

Well Construction Specialist Schlumberger Dowell Hanover Germany, December 1994 to January 1998 Scope of Work . Optimized casing point selection in HPHT deep gas wells in Zechstein and Rotliegendes production horizons. . Developed successful borehole stabilization method for securing sloughing shale intervals in long intermediate hole sections using fiber reinforced cement. . Eliminated the use of 2 stage cementing of long surface and intermediate strings by applying ultralight cement systems. . Developed successful long deep horizontal slim hole liner cementing techniques for deep gas wells as well as shallow oil wells. . Evaluation of the data from an underground gas storage project to determine if the reservoir rock is sealed. The result pointed to the existence of a higher sand layer that was leaking from the main storage horizon, resulting in a change in the well placement strategy of the wells in the storage project. . Developed a high rate and large diameter borehole zonal isolation technique, including the engineering, construction and testing as well as further implementation of a new type of Cement head, capable of launching up to 3 cement rubber plugs by remote control and under constant pump rate. . Developed zonal isolation techniques for ERD oil wells in the Mittelplate offshore oil field. For the duration of this assignment, worked in close cooperation with the drilling departments of BEB (Shell – Exxon JV), Mobil, RWE-DEA, Preussag and PLE – Ruhrgas to optimize the Well Construction processes, focusing on optimal tubular configuration, zonal isolation, hydraulics, casing running and hole cleaning procedures.

Senior Technical and QHSE Instructor Schlumberger Dowell, Tulsa Oklahoma, November 1992 to December 1994 Scope of work . Modernization of the training infrastructure by adding a training well, constructing and commissioning new facilities for Coiled Tubing, Fracture Stimulation and Cementing operations training, constructing and commissioning new classroom space and cafeteria. . Implementing and completing an accelerated conversion training program and certification process for operators to become Service Technicians. . Managing the operations training programs for fresh out graduate engineers accessing the different career options within the company. As Senior Technical Instructor a combination of teaching tasks as well as management tasks and projects were combined into a complete overhaul of the facility and the training curriculum to adequate it with the new business and technological environment of the company.

Technical Engineer Mexico Schlumberger Dowell, January 1991 to November 1992 Scope of Work

- 7 - . Introduce the Massive Hydraulic Fracturing techniques for stimulation of tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the Burgos basin in north Mexico. . Implemented advanced scale and asphaltene control in deep and hot oil wells in the Tabasco area onshore in south Mexico. A multiple tasks environment, spanning from well construction to well intervention with coiled tubing and well stimulation techniques, both matrix and hydraulic fracturing, in gas wells, HPHT oil wells, shallow oil wells amongst others.

The period between December 1986 and January 1991 was taken as a hiatus break in my oilfield career and was dedicated to strengthen my commercial skills in another industry, importing and distributing of hardware and home improvement goods, developing skills in international tripartite barter trade.

Recruiting, Training and Development Manager Latin America Schlumberger Dowell Caracas, Venezuela, April 1985 to December 1986 Scope of Work . Implement a complete training program in Spanish and Portuguese for service engineers and technicians, conduct over 20 training seminars across Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, and Trinidad. . Establish a pool of reputable universities to recruit fresh out engineering graduates in Mexico, Venezuela, Trinidad and Brazil. . Implement a Summer Internship scheme for engineering students in Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico. . Improve remedial cementing practices by rationalizing placement techniques as well as slurry formulations for the different applications. Developed a borehole stabilization technique using fiber reinforced Cement plugs, to isolate and later re drill trouble shale sections in high angle and horizontal wells, avoiding the use of an extra casing or where there is no further casing size available.

Have published 2 Case Histories of Integrated Project Management, one for well work over and one for new well construction in Iran, at the Reservoir Optimization Conference in Tehran, Iran, March 2003.
